Where Are You, Dollypop?

Have you tried sending him a PM?
I suggest doing so, as this post is likely to slip off the first page of comments before he sees it.
If you have already sent him one, perhaps you could check to see if it has been read. Even if no reply has come, you can click on "view sent messages" to see its status. If it remains in bold, it has not been read.

Is After Eight still around? Mr Roxy?

I don’t think I’ve seen After Eight since the pandemic started. I recall a few posts from Roxy since then, but they were very sporadic and it’s still been a while since I remember seeing him.

Nope.

I had sent him a PM as well and never got a response Hopefully he is well and just taking a break. I miss Margo and PalJoey. They disappeared suddenly as well. Glad to see DAME is still around around as she had mentioned health issues as well. I never got to interact much with After Eight. But hope he is well. Lets all just hope for good things for everyone. Maybe they just got sick of BWW?

Hope he's ok. Sometimes it's nice to take a break.

This is for you, Dollypop. We know how you adore Carol Channing.

Can confirm. Things look like they're going fabulously for him.

I was assuming After Eight didn't make it through COVID. That is around the time I remember no longer hearing from him.
If After Eight was still around, we would certainly have seen 'em creep up after Sondheim died, or in the threads of all of these Sondheim revivals spewing their typical vitriol.

True. Although it's entirely possible that they've reached breaking point, given up on Broadway, and retired to Florida for their mental health. Finally at peace.

I also miss Mr. Novak’s posts when a musical was celebrating 50 years.
I have to admit that I was totally sick of After Eight lambasting so many shows, comparing great newer musicals unfavorably to mediocre ones from the 60s. I saw most of them and a lot of them he loved were really not worth even bringing up. So I am happy to hear that he is healthy but not posting an awful lot of negativism all the time.

Sorry, who said After Eight was still around?
There were some great contributors on the West End board, including Wickedboy, Songanddanceman and Scripps.
I guess they moved to a UK based board?

My bad. It was actually Pal Joey who people have said is still around. I had a couple of run-ins with Pal Joey — he criticized me personally for not liking a couple of shows he loved), so i sometimes interchange them. It is After Eight who I was referring to in my post. So negative and dismissive of anything produced after about 1980.

Yeah but where's Margo?

I'm still here, just a lurker now 😀

He passed away many years ago. I read it here.

I would never confuse those two I always assumed After Eight was a troll, whereas Pal Joey is a BWW national treasure!
(Sorry he crossed swords with you)
Still I hope they are all safe. Solidarity of the old-timers!

I do have the impression that my early days coincided with his scaling back significantly, since he has rarely posted during my time on the board.

If we're talking about people we miss on this board, I had always enjoyed WhizzerMarvin's first preview feedback for every show (though in many ways Jordan Catalano has taken over that role admirably)

Oh that’s nice but I really have not. I miss reading those first preview posts, as well. Very missed around here.
