I mean, I don't know if they want to or are planning on going back to the source material at all (and god I do hope they drop all of the "Ozification" of the language), but a non-white Fiyero would be a simple way to go back to the novel, as Maguire makes it pretty clear that Fiyero is not white-skinned (one character describes his skin color as the color of sh*t)

Maybe we'll see the return of Fiyero's make-up design!
There has been a rumor floating around Instagram that Reneé Rapp is in the running for Glinda along with Dove Cameron and Lili Reinhart. But I would take any and all casting rumors with a grain of salt. Especially this project that will probably continue to take years to produce.
I believe Renee Rapp is currently in LA or has been there a lot the past couple of weeks.

And here is this video of Ciara singing a Michael in the bathroom parody song in Elphaba garb. The suspense of who could be the film Elphaba is killing me!

I'm just hoping Stephen Daldry and Universal can launch the careers of two (if not one) up-and-comers to play these witches. I don't know who they will eventually be, but this should be a fun watch in the weeks and months to come.
With COVID, I would imagine that all preliminary casting would be done online and a cross-country trip would indicate a later stage of pre-production (screen tests?).

Regardless, she can't sing the score anymore :)"
Really??? I don’t know if something has changed in the last few years but I would suspect she would be able to power through the score still, especially in a studio (as opposed to live).
[for me the issue is that she is just old]
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
