The "familiar names" don't have to be the students guys. The only person I am disappointed about is Kelli as Nadia, because I have heard her portraya of Nadia and dislike it. She has a very grating voice, NJJ is definitely my ideal Nadia, but a lot had changed in seven years, so I'm assuming she is probably a lot bettr. The others I don't think there is any reason to be disappointed, as, most of you haven't heard them perform.
I had been hoping to see Aaron Lohr included on the CD, but oh well. I'm glad Jenna was included, seeing as she's been Ivy forever.
I wonder who the adults will be...I'm holding out hope for Kaitlyn Hopkins, but who knows...
Yay for Jenna!
Who did James play in SHE'S THE MAN?
I love that movie!

Kaitlin Hopkins is not involved, unfortunately, at least not as of the date this was announced.
I'm expecting a few surprises come September 1st!
...well, September 2nd.
At 3:00a.m.
But whatever. Tomato, tomahto, apparently.
Yeah, no Kaitlin, but you shouldn't be disappointed with Claire! Very good and different performer.
James was the preppy guy in "She's the Man" that was in love with Olivia...and he had the tarantula.

Oh my god!
He was so crazy!
Wow, he can sing?
Good for him.
Wow, I just took an American Sign Language course with Nils last semester. I didn't even know he sang! Well, of course not, we were silent in class.

Oh well...
Without Arden, Joy Johnson, Lohr and Hopkins
I ain't buying it,
Are there other great singers out there and is the score amazing?
YES.
But those actors and voices are what made this the cult classic that it is.
OK I am calming down.
Oh Damon......
P.S. the vixen that is Jenna Rox!
Thank the Gods she is on it.
I will listen to it in the VIRGIN megaStore.

James has a very nice voice! He did Rock of Ages in L.A., and the reading here.
Glad to see a few familiar faces, but wish some of the others from the demo would reprise their roles. But why not give these other performers a chance? I'm excited to hear the new voices.

Oh Damon? What is that supposed to mean? I would think Damon knows what will be good for the show he wrote.
yes, but some disagree.

And I suppose they are right. The person who wrote the thing doesn't know how it should sound. Why would he? Please.

While I totally get it...I just don't think you should let fan-boyism get the best of you. Every renthead in the world thought the only way the film could be done was with the original cast (including myself)...but you'd be lying to youself if you actually thought that worked out beautifully. Haha. I also think it's hard to feel like this has to be attached to the NYC production. It's a new group of people but it's also been 3 years since it was even on stage! Why not just pull a new group together? Everyone involved in this keeps touting that it's going to be the definitive recording...well cool...I'm sure there will be a lot of things that will piss fans off about it and a lot of things that will make new fans come out of it...it's just sort of how it goes.
I will say though...that despite the fact that this is just a recording...Matt Doyle and James Snyder look frighteningly right for their roles. I'm happy that we have two very pretty boys to potentially obsess over and picture while we listen to the cd!
I'm excited about all of this.

Just a comment on RENT the movie. I didn't feel it was the cast, it was the script and direction that made it bad for me. I loved seeing most of the original cast in the film.

Bump.
There's a new video up on the website featuring Keili Lefkovitz talking about "A Quiet Night at Home" and snippets of her singing.
This just makes me even more excited! I like her voice and take on the character. I also feel stupid because she isn't a bean pole. She is Nadia. I apologize.

Ok, so I have a question...it may be really stupid, BUT
is this the same thing as Bare the Pop Opera?

Exact same show. "a Pop Opera" was never part of the title. It was slapped on there by the Dodgers.
No it had a pop opera attached to it on some of the advertisments from LA too.

Does it REALLY matter what it is called, or where "a pop opera" came from?

Just in case anyone was planning on staying up until midnight for the release, it has now been pushed back to NOON tomorrow (3 PM EST). How much do we want to bet that around 11am tomorrow we will dins out iot has been pushed back again?
Also there is a fabulous new clip of "One" on the site.
