I was just listening to "A New Argentina" and it made my think of this.
In theatre, what are some moments in songs that just leave you speechless
In "A New Argentina" it would be when Patti starts belting high and sings, "he supports you, for he loves you..." so amazing Updated On: 7/21/09 at 08:48 PM
I know people hate when people point out grammatical errors, but in your sig it should be you're not your haha
Anyways.... the moment in a show that left me more so with an oh my God that was amazing was recently in next to normal the whole "You don't know/I am the one" sequence was incredible! After seeing it (in the front row i might add) i leaned over to my mom and just said wow haha.
but i guess you just asked for one moment from a song... sorry i will think of something better than that!
Spring Awakening 7.3.07!!, Wicked/ Rent 7.5.07!!, Legally Blonde 7.6.07!! The Color Purple 7.7.07!!, Gypsy 8.19.08!!, In the Heights/Wicked 8.20.08!!, The Little Mermaid 8.21.08!! Legally Blonde Tour 11.9.08!! Shrek 7.7.09!!, Blithe Spririt 7.8.09!!, 9 to 5 7.9.09!!, Next to Normal 7.10.09!!
The most memorable standing ovation I have ever been witness to happened during the final notes of "Bring Him Home" in the original Les Miz on Broadway. That stopped the show in a way I've never seen before or since.
Algonquin, I have to agree with you when it comes to Bring Him Home, I saw the original production, the revival, and a HS production, and in all of them the crowd was caught breathless by that song.

One for me would be the "watch how I die, see how I DIEEEEEEEEE" (with the climax on that long note) in Gethsemene from Jesus Christ Superstar. Most of the singers in that part get so emotional and powerful right there, and then you have that quiet, "then I was inspired, now I'm sad and tired" to follow it. that is just chilling and powerful for me.
The production was just ok, but Brian Stokes Mitchell's "Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha literally took my breath away.
Defying Gravity from Wicked
The end of Blood Brothers (no other musical has made me sob like an idiot)
I also have to admit that Sara Ramirez's 'Whatever happened to my part?' from Spamalot left me rolling on the floor. A show stopper in a very different way.
I have a lot of these...but one that really sticks out is the slower reprise of "Do You Hear The People Sing?" in the Finale of Les Miserables when the whole cast is on stage singing their faces off. "One Day More" can give me the same effect too at times...
Whoever says money can't buy happiness simply didn't know where to shop. - Bo Derek
It isn't really "during" a song, but the scene immediately following "Another Winter In a Summer Town" in Grey Gardens is one of the most emotionally affecting moments I've ever seen in a theatrical production. I never quite loved the show as much as many people on this board did, but when I was leaving the performance I saw, there was a woman in front of me who literally couldn't stop crying her entire way out of the theater, and I knew so, so well what she was feeling.
"Why, I make more money than... than... than Calvin Coolidge! PUT TOGETHER!" ~Lina Lamont
Also, when you can understand what she's saying up there. NOOOOO I'm not alluding to Patti at ALL... :) Ahem...did I really say that? :O it was the wind...

*Spoilers* Couldn't hear no music, Couldn't see no light. Mama, she was frightened, Crazy from the fright. Tears without no comfort, Screams without no sound. Only darkness and pain, The anger and pain, The blood and the pain! I buried my hear in the ground! In the ground- When I buried you in the ground.
*end or Spoliers*
It's just FIERCE!!!!!
The end of all that Jazz when Velma sings "No, I'm no one's wife But, oh, I love my life And All That Jazz!". It gives me chills almost every time.
Ditto on "A New Argentina" and "The Gods Love Nubia". This is kind of random, but when Heather Headley is riffing at the end of "The Gods Love Nubia"...am I the only one that's obsessed with the part when she sings "Semi divided OoOOOOOooooOO"?
"There's nothing good on. The media hates Christmas. The media loves vampires, though. Maybe they will show a Twilight Christmas." -Danmeg's 10 year old son.
Woah, I was actually just thinking about this in my car.
Anyway, this might not count, it is actually the end of the show, but when The Flesh Failures changes to "Let the Sunshine in" every time I get chills. Every time. Whether I'm actually watching the show or just listening on my iPod. It's a perfect moment.
Because I look different you think I'm subversive.
David Elder's ridiculously long note in Lullabye of Broadway inf the revival of 42nd Street, always seemed to get a HUGE cheer from the audience all 4 times I saw it.
Stephany J. Block singing, defying gravity, get out and stay out, and more than likely the phonebook.
I adore the black band holding on the Phantom's mask. ~ Jenna2
Oh my! AndAllThatJazz22 I just listened to "Your Daddy's Son." That was incredible. I am now a HUGE fan of Audra McDonald. I never really gave her a listen to, and now I love her. Her voice at the beginning is so chilling and haunting.
Might I add, this single song has moved Ragtime to the top of my MUST BUY LIST. And also my MUST DO SOME RESEARCH LIST.
"i had no idea billy elliot was about one boy's triumph over epilepsy."-FindingNamo
In Wicked, when Elphaba starts rising off the ground and says "It's me!"... It just gets me. I become so proud of her character.
Also, not a song, but about 20 seconds before the Funny Girl Overture ends, that solo trumpet... anyone who has heard it knows what I'm talking about. The most exciting part of an Overture, just moments before the curtain rises.

^ Looks like we've got a new Wicked fan on the boards. Welcome, fellow Ozian.
kchenofan's computer is broken right now. This is her fridge. Now, you can leave a message, but say it slowly, so I can write it on a post-it note and stick it to myself.
