oooh random thought... i have skipped through central park with a few friends singing la vie boheme before, and a few people actually started singing with us, so we stopped and chatted for a while... its always nice to meet some of the fellow rent-heads

You and your one other friend who is obsessed w/ Broadway will talk out songs like conversations to see if we could get away with it. (i.e. - using joannes phone call to maureen during the song Rent "did you eat" ..."dont change the subject..."but you havent eaten all day..."i'll throw up"..."you won't throw up")
While reading the "You know you are a RENThead if..." not only do you agree with half of the things listed and read the entire list, but you hit the computer everytime the RENT cast recording is referred to as a soundtrack.

When you start building rituals around the Avenue Q lottery.
I lost for the fourth time today, by the way. But at least I got to see Frozen.

Les Mis-obsessed ???
Nah !!!
I only have the following -
*Tickets for 9 performances I have seen on Broadway, London, Paris, and even here in Manila
*The original London CR -- the Complete Symphonic Recording -- the 10th Anniversary Concert recording -- the Broadway CR -- the two-disc French concept recording -- highlights from the 1986 French concept recording ( bought in Paris) -- the German cast recording from Vienna -- cast recording from Sweden --Cast recording from Spain -- Cast recording from the Paris/Cameron Mackintosh show -- Manchester/UK cast recording -- various studio vocal and symphonic recordings
*The DVD of the 10th Anniversary concert
*The book "Les Miserables - History in the Making" by Edward Behr
*Merchandise from the show - Mugs from the London and Broadway production, sweat shirts, t-shirts, night shirts, towel, Postcards, key holder, button
*Vocal selections from the show
*Choral suite and medley selections from the show
*Autographed copy ( Michael Ball) of the original London Cast Recording
*Visited the Left Bank ( Rue de Bac, the Latin Quartier, etc) in Paris for references to the story/musical
*Read an English translation of Victor Hugo's monumental work ( maybe a thousand pages or so)
*Struggled through 2 years of lessons at Alliance Francaise - at least I learned how to pronounce French words
*Only thing I didn't do -- go to an offered tour of the Parisian underground sewers to trace the footsteps of Valjean and Marius -- that would have been too much - LOL!

When you watch the Teen Choice Awards and...
-Hear someone say "Just so you all know, I'm not wearing underwear." And burst out with "I'M NOT WEARING UNDERWEAR TODAY, NO I'M NOT WEARING UNDERWEAR TODAYYYYY."
-See Antonia Banderas talk about Mike Meyers and scream "He was in NINE!!!" and have your sister give you a blank stare.
Heh, just thought I'd add those two that happened to me in the past hour.

I'm about 0-6!
It's fun meeting other people there, the others that also continually lose, we get mad when the 1 time tourists just win. I know that I'm fortunate to go whenever I want and see the show- but after 6 times, I think that I SHOULD have won once.
And one of them had only about 30 people there, I should have won, but nope! :)
I love the lottery. We all just mope and try to get it moving on when they call the name. (Yes, I'm a dork like that.)

The evening lottery was lots of fun today. It was a very enthusiastic crowd- cheering and clapping for all the people who won. No sore losers there. :) And in the afternoon I almost tripped over myself recommending Caroline, or Change to a woman who said she liked serious musicals. And like I said, I got to see the fantastic Frozen, so all was not lost.
Oh, and you know you're obsessed with showtunes when you spend 3 solid minutes staring at a copy of the 1998 London Oklahoma in Virgin convincing yourself you don't need it since you have the DVD.

HAIRSPRAY:
You watch EVERY possible TV broadcast and know by heart the exact choreography to "You Can't Stop the Beat"
You can name family members/friends to play all of the characters and when you tell them about it they look at you like you have five heads.

Hey, we aren't sore losers!
It's fun, we gripe and stuff and then sometimes we all talk about where we should buy last minute tickets.
And would you recommend Frozen 100%? I might see a show sometime this weekend or next week, and it's on my list. I want to see a straight play this time.

I would absolutely reccommend Frozen. It's incredibly thought-provoking, and Swoosie Kurtz and Brian F. O'Byrne give very powerful performances. My only caveat would be that it's heavy. It's a lot to take in. I was thinking about seeing the evening performance of I Am My Own Wife if (okay, when) I lost the Avenue Q lottery again, but once the cards were drawn I found I felt so inwardly exhausted I had to go home.
Seriously, though, you should see this show. It's amazing.

That totally happened to me! I went to the taping for the Teen Choice Awards (I was dragged there...I SWEAR) and that is exactly what ran through my head...
When Antonio came on the screen I felt the need to cheer...
And when Jimmy Fallon came onstage, I was found myself thinking, "Oh thank god, there's actually someone else in this room who knows that Avenue Q exists..."

When speaking to your friends about musicals, you just use first names of performers (Adam, Idina, Heather, etc) and they know EXACTLY who you are talking about.

Hey all this is my first post but.. I don't know if these have already been said.. I figured...
- when you've made up and rehearsed your Tony Award acceptance speech..
- when your friends at college call you the Broadway encyclopida
- when your professors in the Music and Theatre department ask you questions about how long shows ran and who starred in them during a lecture.
- when every time someone speaks to you, you can break out into a song from a show and do the choreography
- when your professors have asked you to teach a class about Broadway Musicals for their General Education Music Appreciation classes.
- when fellow classmates ask you what Broadway songs would be good for their voice.
Enjoy! Have a great day!!

"When you have no idea who Kanye West(cringe) is or what Usher(another cringe) new song is, but know who the next up-and-coming Broadway star is..."
Yes, that is me. I used to listen to pop music and have the radio on all the time. Now that I am a bit older and more mature, I have found a different taste in music. Most of what I listen to is showtunes.
Anyways, you know you're obsessed when:
- When you are listening to "Thoroughly Modern Millie", and you notice that four consecutive barcode numbers on a Life Savers package say "1922" (this happened to me right when Millie sings, "This is 1922!").
- When your mom goes to order tickets on the phone, you get picky when they have seats 13 and 14...you want seats 8 and 9 because they are in the center of the center orchestra (when I looked up tix on the computer, they had seats 8 and 9, so those were being reserved for me as my mom made the call to the box office, which is why it didn't show up on their computer - yet)
- You buy a cast recording, even if you have a feeling you won't like it. You just want to add to your collection.

-you competed in informative speaking with a speech about RENT, during which you played music from the show
-you've taped the Tony's religiously every year
-you almost had a hernia in high school because your class was playing Taboo (the game) in English class and your clue was "Saigon" and NOBODY else knew that there was ever a musical about it
-meeting Chuck Wagoner (from the Original Cast of Into the Woods) was a bigger deal for you than meeting Joey Fatone!
-you've ever "stolen" Broadway choreography
-you've ever bough an OBC just because it has that "Parental Advisory--Explicit Lyrics" thing on it (that's how I discovered Avenue Q)
-you've responded to "You look familiar" with "like your dead girlfriend"
-you have a Broadway shrine somewhere in your home
