Does anyone have a sense how long Patina Miller is contracted for Pippin right now? My niece adores her and I want to get her to NYC before Miller rotates out, trying to figure out if there's a deadline yet. Thank you...
Yeah, me too. Especially since I've heard some of the cast are on six month contracts, which means some of them will be leaving soon (unless they've been persuaded to renew).
I know of just Martin, d'Amboise & Mann that are scheduled to leave in September.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
It's a vain hope, most likely, but I hope that when they're putting in replacements, which it seems will be a fairly intensive process because each replacement so far has made the role (read: the circus trick) their own, they take a second look at the script and re-insert some more of Fosse's rewrites into it. There's some stuff I still miss that I'd really like to be back in the show.
I doubt Vanessa Williams would be a replacement in any show.

I don't know about Martin or D'Amboise, but I'm guessing that Terrence Mann is leaving very early in September, like probably in the next week and a half. Western Carolina University has him appearing at a concert event there on 9/3 and then directing their student production of "Next to normal", which is due to be performed at the end of September. So I'm a little surprised they haven't yet announced who's replacing him. Of course, it is possible that he is planning to re-up with the show and is just using this as a break.
^ I know! Right? I'd love to go to that school and have him for a professor. Hmm, maybe I need another bachelors degree, maybe in musical theater, maybe at a certain school in NC.....(but I have a job, husband and student loan already, so probably not. Oh well, if this opportunity had existed 20 years ago....)
One of my former students worked with Tommy Tune at U of Miami. Last year? The year before, I think. I would think an amazing experience.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I think there was already a thread talking about this, but I would like to see Montego Glover tackle Leading Player. IMO, she was fabulous in MEMPHIS and I would love to see her back on Broadway.
Yes, Ms. Glover was absolutely amazing. She did Memphis for three years straight, so she clearly has the health and stamina for a difficult role. I have seen her in a few things since Memphis but nothing major. Love and miss that show. That role would be amazing for her.
Patina Miller is astounding in the role and will be difficult to replace. That being said, there is no question that Pippin will be running for many years, which means that there will be many replacements to come. I don't envy any actress/actor that would have to immediately follow Patina, but I agree that Montego certainly has the ability to step in and make it her own. I would suggest that since there will be so many Leading Players in the future, using a male from time to time makes sense. Someone like Colman Domingo immediately comes to mind...
