Bucks County Playhouse is doing a production of Spelling Bee in August! Saw COMPANY starring Justin Guarini there earlier in the summer and it was Broadway caliber at half the price haha.
Skies, that's like saying Comden and Green's Wonderful Town, or Lee Adams's Bye Bye Birdie. Richard Rodgers and Arthur Laurents also wrote the show, you know. And Zell, change your damn profile picture
I'm just recently getting into musicals and I'm already saddened with my bad timing, as there were several ones I loved from what I could glean of reading the plot summary and listening to the soundtracks, but which I then found already had revivals within the last 5 years or so, meaning I'd be waiting a good while for a revival.
However, I agree with some of the earlier posters that a revival of CITY OF ANGELS would be great! That's one of the ones I really like the idea of, and everything I've heard about how it actually appears sounds even better. That's one that when I read about it I went "I REALLY want to see that live." URINETOWN is another one I'd really like to see on Broadway. And while it's probably too soon for a revival, I'm really sad I missed the chance to see NEWSIES, and hope it gets a revival 10-15 years from now or so. There are others but I can't quite think of them yet off the top of my head.
Also sorry for the bump, but I was originally going to start a discussion to this extent anyway, and perhaps people have new ideas since it's been over a year now since it was last discussed?
I don't know much about Parade, but after hearing Carmen Cusack sing a song from it at 54 below, I hope for a revival just so she can be in it. Apparently when she asked fans which role she should play that was the winner.
While maybe not a perfect production, the Chicago revival of Sweet Bird of Youth with Diane Lane and Finn Whitrock had a lot of very strong stuff in it, I'm sorry it didn't move to Broadway.
Yes, I am well aware that the last "revival" was a mere 6 years ago, but that abomination that changed the year that the show takes place in with the horrible choreography, the useless Bacharach-David song interpolations and the two extremely mis-cast leads was not PROMISES, PROMISES. It was a mess that was trying to be PROMISES, PROMISES and it was a huge LET DOWN, LET DOWN.
Oklahoma (people have been experimenting with this allot, I would love to see it in the round or with blind casting like it was at Arena Stage or Bard College)
