Adam Pascal and Olivia Valli Will Lead the Tour of PRETTY WOMAN

At first I was like, hey that's nice to see Adam Pascal onstage. But then I looked up their ages. Adam is 50 and Olivia is I believe 27 or 28? I dunno, I feel like in 1990 and because of who they were, a large age difference could work. But nowadays? I dunno.

I am excited to catch this on tour. I am one of the few people who actually enjoyed this on Broadway.

In the movie, they were 18 years apart. And in the Broadway show, they were 16 years apart. There is always supposed to be an age gap. Adam Pascal doesn't do it for me at all but he looks younger than 50. But, the way he's taken care of his voice and still sounds like he did 25 years ago in Rent? Impressive as hell.

Good luck to them, I think this will tour well.

I saw Adam a couple years ago as HH in The Music Man at the Thousand Oaks Civic Center and he definitely still sounds great. I wasn’t planning on going out of my way to see this, but this casting may have me giving that some more thought. I’m of an age (and other demographics) where Adam was pretty much peak formative years crush material, and I think there’s some of those that we never quite grow out of.

The leads of the original Londin cast had the same age btw but I can't comment on how that worked

I’ve heard audio of Pascal’s Edward, and he sounds very good, leagues better than Karl. Bryan Adams’s score was built for a rock tenor like him.
Though he was only in the B’way production for a week or two, I’m so glad audiences around the country will get to see him.

Maybe the worst Broadway musical I've ever seen. Not one good song. The set looked cheap. Staging was boring. Awful. 

But that said, I'd go to see Pascal. Love his vocals.

Saw this last night in Detroit. Overall very meh. I found the book mediocre and the score especially in the first act very rhymey, very ABAB. Most of the set was on wheels the ensemble pushed around and the only automation out of the wings were palm trees to frame the stage. That being said, Adam Pascal was amazing as I knew he'd be, but a terrific performance can only do so much when the material is lacking. Olivia Valli was good too. I really liked her, but my companion said she was overplaying and acting a caricature. Take of that what you will. Overall, a decent night at the theatre, only if so due to the performances.

Well, they got rid of the bathtub. She just comes back into the hotel room in a bathrobe, says he has a nice tub, and then he offers to hire her for the week.

I'm also pretty sure on Broadway we saw the dumpster at the beginning that the dead prostitute is found in? On tour Vivian just says they found her in an alley. But I might be misremembering the dumpster in the first place.

If anyone cares about any other changes: I saw the show in previews, so maybe they had already made this change on Broadway by the time it opened, but they cut out the opening number of the second act. I honestly only noticed because they still sing the coda, but the rest of the song is gone. Instead they do a funny bit where

a guy comes out with a guitar and starts to play the song "Pretty Woman," then the Happy Man runs him off stage, saying "later! later!" - then they sing it at curtain call. I know they added the curtain call bit late in the Broadway run but not sure if they had the in-show bit

Watched the tour last night. I have never had any interest in watching this show, but I was interested in seeing Olivia and Adam. I have also never seen the movie (I know), so this was all completely fresh to me.

I surprisingly had a really good time. I thought the cast was really great, especially the ensemble. It might be because they're only a few weeks into the run, but they were in top shape in their dancing and singing. I have normally found tours to be a little lackluster in dancing - which I attribute to the traveling. I noticed this especially in Hamilton, but this ensemble was really working and it looked like they were having so much fun.

Adam was a rock star. His voice is perfect for this role. I would close my eyes and hear the RENT OBC play in my head. He sounds truly phenomenal. I also liked Olivia, her vocals are great and I can tell she has a great personality. I don't think I was too fond of her acting. There were moments that just fell kind of flat for me, surprisingly even in her solos. I do give her kudos because she is almost always on stage, and if not it was for a costume change.

What stopped me from ever really considering Pretty Woman was the set. From what I've seen in trailers it just looked so bare and cheap. But after watching it live, it actually didn't bother me at all. There was actually more to it than the trailers made it seem with all their close-ups. Obviously, can't tell how it compares to Broadway and what was changed.

Overall, it was fun. Again, the cast was what truly made it. I think if this show went non-eq, it would feel cheap really fast. But this was my second show since the pandemic, so it was nice to see the magic of theater shine again.

Pretty Woman has had to cancel the remainder of its run here in Chicago due to breakthrough cases within the production.

Well, at least they got to see the world premiere back in early 2018 before it got eviscerated by Broadway critics.

Yes, we did get to see the pre-Broadway run, with the magnificent Steve Kazee.

I bought tickets to see tonight's performance earlier today (don't judge - had to see Adam), battled traffic to get downtown, paid $20 for parking, and walked to the theatre, only to find that it was canceled. I received an email from Ticketmaster at 7:10pm for a show that was supposed to start at 7:30pm.  Something is wrong with this process.

I had the pleasure of catching the matinee of the PRETTY WOMAN tour today. I will preface this post by saying that I am one of the very few people who actually really enjoyed this on Broadway. I think the show is just FUN, and the score is super catchy and has some great tunes. That being said, it was no surprise that I enjoyed the tour immensely.

Both Olivia Valli and Adam Pascal were out, but Alexa Xiofaridou Moster and Christian Douglas were both terrific as Vivian and Edward, respectively. Moster did a lot of riffing which was fun to hear. Christian Douglas's voice was like butter - no rasp like Andy Karl and Andy Karl both had in the roles. Kyle Taylor Parker. What can one say. This man is SO insanely talented. I LOVED him as Lola in Kinky Boots, and he is so great here as well.

The physical production is very similar to the Broadway production (which was pretty bare bones to begin with), minus the automation. The ensemble moved pieces on and off and some pieces were flown in and out. The passerelle and elevator have, obviously, been cut. I was surprised to see they cut the bathtub set piece, but I wouldn't have noticed its absence had I not seen the show on Broadway.

All in all, a very fun afternoon in the theatre. Yes, the show is dated and doesn't really hold up that well from a Me Too movement point of view, but I still think it's just a blast, and I'm glad I got to see the tour!

Broadway Across Canada announced today that it will be Adam and Jessie for the Canadian stops, so I assume Adam is closing out the tour.
