1. POTO
2. The Producers
3. Gypsy
4. Dance of the Vampires
5. South Pacific

Posted: 3/4/05 at 3:50pmI agree Gypsy is the best musical show overture. Judy Garland's Carnegie Hall overture is the best non-musical show overture.
The truly beautiful should be lawfully restricted from wearing clothing; and the truly butt-ugly should be lawfully mandated from going naked.

1. Carousel (it's so classic)
2. Kiss Me Kate
3. POTO (although i'm not a fan of the show, the intro is real good)
4. Gypsy
5. On the Town
I have more, but I can't think of them right now

Merrily has a great overture! I don't know why we didn't do it when we did it.
Also I think Chicago has a great one too!

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

Posted: 3/4/05 at 5:45pmI think Funny Girl has a great overture as well, but it is often overshadowed by Gypsy. I also love the Prologue to Carousel. Not really an overture, but a great show opener nonetheless.
Pass it on - Take a kid to a show.
