Hi - I'm organizing a vocal ensemble to sing something uplifting, relevant, and graduation-appropriate at my graduation in June, and I have to submit three song ideas within the next few weeks. I'm looking for songs that are inspiring, applicable to graduating high-school students (in the arts, mostly), and would sound nice on a 8-9 member SATB vocal ensemble.
The two songs I've come up with so far are "Our Time" from Merrily We Roll Along and "In The Beginning" from Children of Eden...Anyone have any more suggestions?
Bring On Tomorrow is perfect, obviously. For Good is also fitting, but I don't know about it being for an ensemble. Um... my mind is going blank on other suggestions.
I 3rd Bring On Tomorrow, it is a wonderful graduation song! GREAT! Ironically,I was LIETRALLY just listening to it when I found this thread, then it went to the next song
"Don't thank your parents, if you were raised in a nurturing environment you wouldnt be in show business"--Conan O'Brien at the 2006 Emmy Awards
Yeah For Good would be very appropriate but again, not sure how that could work as an ensemble. But I'm sure you could work something out, like maybe giving the solos to different people and then all singing the chorus etc. I dont know but that would be beautiful.
I wanted to get something that an "ex"-junkie like him would really appreciate and cherish....it's a brick of heroin shaped like a heart.

Well this might just be my obsession for RENT talking but maybe the Finale B from RENT? Right after "there is no future, there is no past etc." That would work and is a very moving piece.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
"Time of your life"- Greenday "Bridge Over Troubled Water" "Wherever you go"- don't know where this is from, but we sang it at my grad, and it's heartbreaking!
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
Seasons of Love from Rent might work...not my favorite song, but I've seen it sung by an ensemble at a graduation in the past and it worked pretty well.
"Open A New Window" - MAME "Before The Parade Passes By" - HELLO, DOLLY! "Try To Remember" - THE FANTASTICKS "On a Clear Day, You Can See Forever" "Corner of the Sky" - PIPPIN "Climb Ev'ry Mountain"- THE SOUND OF MUSIC "Another Day" - RENT
"Do you know ChrisLovesShows?" "Yes. Why, yes he does!"
I've heard that it is pretty popular on this board for grad songs. There is an ensemble version for it, and it would be fun to sing. If you dont' want a Broadway song... Green Day "Time of your life" is good too.
