What is the most overrated show you have see ever seen on Broadway?
Either Phantom or Cats
The Producers. It was fun, but not everything I expected after all of the hype.
PHANTOM OF THE OPERA - even the daily critics were less harsh on this show than others.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
Wicked
Cats
Phantom, Cats and even though I more or less enjoyed it, I think Wicked is very overrated.
CATS
Cats and Wicked.
I enjoyed Wicked IMMENSELY, but it is NOT the end-all be-all of musical theatre that many of its hardcore fans believe it to be.
Same for me- I love Wicked, but I think it is overrated. Its not the best musical ever written in my eyes.
Hairspray. I didn't like Cats either, but I didn't honestly expect to with what I knew about it going in.
I thought I was going to really like Hairspray, but most of the score is just blah (I like maybe three songs -- Good Morning, Baltimore, Welcome to the Sixties, and I Can Hear the Bells), and it's really not that funny. I sat through most of the first act bored - pretty much the only part I liked in the whole thing was "You're Timeless To Me" because Bruce Villanch - and whoever I saw as the father - were adlibbing like crazy.
Have to say Wicked too. I loved it, but I can't see how it's many people's all time favorite show...
Phantom of the Opera bored me.
Wicked was eh. Slightly enjoyable, but not amazing.
Hairspray and some of Spamalot.
Another vote for Hairspray!
I saw it with Michael McKean and Carly Jibson (it definitely was not her best performance!)

"Spamalot" and "The Phantom of the Opera" are by far the most overrated musicals.
Spamalot, Wicked, and Mamma Freakin' Mia!

THE PRODUCERS. Entertaining? Yes. Worth of all those Tonys? No.
So much fuss and hype over such a mediocre show.

Wicked. It was fun to look at (pretty costumes, lovely sets...), but not the holy grail of musical theatre that I heard it was.

"The Producers" - did it really deserve all of their Tony awards?
NOT
and "Wicked" - terribly "overproduced" IMHO
the producers

Oh, definitely Wicked. I mean, I was amazed by a couple of things. But, it wasn't the best thing I've seen in my whole life.
Gonna have to agree with Producers...did not see what all the fuss was about

hairspray.
I also agree about Wicked. I was expecting it to be much more exciting than it was. It was good, but definitely not my favorite.
