Musical- Carousel, hands down
Play- Prospero's at the end of the The Tempest. Simply beautiful; I cry just reading it.

In a musical, wouldn't any solo where the actor was alone onstage constitute as a soliloquy?

I thought the thread title was inquiring as to which is the best rendition of SOLILOQUY - which means that for me, there is only one SOLILOQUY

Definitely Gwen Verdon version of Charity and Roxie (though I don't know if Roxie counts since she's talking to the audience) also I think that "Fire Within Me" from Little Women was very moving.
