Besty, that's a brilliant story. I'm glad Billy B can stay on my crush list
I think Alec deserves to be called out. Of course the context of the rest of his life should be kept in mind -- it would be insane to think otherwise. And I don't, from all I've seen and read, think he's deeply homophobic. But to just brush away his comments as someone who is angry (I've been angry and I don't start shouting out the n word or for that matter *that* f word) or that it's OK because he obviously didn't mean them misses the point completely. He doesn't deserve to be blacklisted (and he won't be, anyway) but he does deserve to take some repercussions for what he said -- even more so because he DOES seem to genuinely be someone who is all for equal rights.
He wasn't saying this to a bullied teen, he was saying it to a paparazzi. You know they are the scum of the earth, right?
It is different, but it's still the same words. But I do think there's a distinction. (How's that for sounding non-committal)
"He wasn't saying this to a bullied teen, he was saying it to a paparazzi. You know they are the scum of the earth, right?"
Irrelevant.
Well, thank you, your honor, but it's actually it's quite relevant. What words would you use to people whose sole business is harassing you every single day?

So, henrik, if the paparazzi did to you what he did to Alec Baldwin, what would be the range of acceptable responses you would allow yourself, with "Excuse me, sir, please stop" being a 1 and "coCk-sucking fat-head" being a 9?
I suppose it depends on what words you grew up with using to put someone down with. I am of course completely without any flaws :P but I would never call someone a fa*ott, or a number of other words if I was really mad at them. SH*Thead, ****twad, and so many other words would spew out of my mouth, however. Maybe it's too PC, but it's the same reason I don't like people saying that something is gay, if they mean it's bad. Meh.
Weird what words get edited on here, and which I have to edit myself. Since I can't edit my posts because of my ****ing account, I just want to add that I don't think someone who says on his talk show that something is gay, or is caught saying that, should have his show pulled. But I do think an issue should be made out of it.

Who said that and where?
Personally I started this thread to cut off the homophobic concern troll at the pass but it is so pathological it couldn't resist concern trolling in this thread. Then it came here and it sullied my gorgeous thread with the one acronym I hate almost as much as HRC: GLAAAAD. Such stupid a-holes in that organization. They publicly lambasted a comic creator for using the word "fag" in his strip without realizing he was a gay man. So he ripped them to shreds for giving Margaret Cho and Kathy Griffin, who both use that word freely, awards for being heroes to the gay community. So, if GLAAAAAD and the homophobic concern troll of Broadwayworld are all over it, I'm not interested in getting my dander up.
BESIDES, it's all a separate issue from how great Alec's hair looks, which was the point of the thread.
Anderson Cooper was in the closet for ten years and now he's the sheriff for gays? bye. Alec is still a king.

My vote still goes to Billy. (Point taken, Namo.)
I always thought Billy was the cutest one.
Steven is mental.
Alec's hair looks good but even before this incident I thought he was a pompous bully. (but a pretty good actor).
He's just our crazy Uncle Alec.
You know, Crazy Uncle Alec who drinks too much at Thanksgiving dinner and ends up cursing out someone or other. He probably was always crazy, and he probably did too much cocaine or whatever back in the day. He's always been smart and witty but he can also be phenomenally stupid, especially when he's been drinking or someone gets him mad, both of which happen a lot.
Uncle Alec was always one of the better looking relatives, the only one (the only!) we ever thought was "hot." At first it was embarrassing when our friends pointed that out, but after a while, even we had to admit that, well, yes, his WAS kinda hot.
Still is.
And, even though Uncle Alec could be a complete and utter asshole, somehow we always knew that, if someone else were attacking us, Uncle Alec would have our back.
And then, to paraphrase Nancy and Frank Sinatra, he goes and spoils it all by saying something stupid like "cocksucking fat-head."
The paparazzi suck yes, but plenty of celebs manage to keep from blowing their tops at them.
I think he's more narcissist than homophobe. He views himself as being on a different level than other people (the plane incident). And he gets off on the attention, good or bad.

Agreed completely, MrMidwest.

To paraphrase Lisa Kron's mother from "Well": Not everybody has the same physical or emotional resources. The calm and collected celebs probably have lives that run more smoothly than Alec Baldwin's.
Having worked with Mr Baldwin, once in bed (eat your heart out Namo!). The only thing I can criticize him for is being a Method actor.
I am gay and in anger have called people "COcksuckers and F-ggots". I am not homophobic. Just like when I say "Jesus F-ing Christ!" I am not being anti christian.
I agree with that, Namo. But I think he has a hand in making things bumpy for himself.

I'll allow that my opinion on this burning Celebrity Bad Behavior issue has evolved in the course of reading this thread.
Initially, I was in agreement with the idea that there it 'means something' when the words that come out of someone's mouth when they are angry are homophobic.
SNAFU caught me up short, however, with reference to 'Jesus F***king Christ'--which is my go-to expression of extreme anger/disgust/etc. For me, it is a collection of syllables that make a sound that expresses anger. Beyond a generalized distaste for organized religion, I mean no malice to my Christian friends and certainly none towards Jesus--a nice, Jewish boy and a carpenter, to boot.
As to the original intent of the thread--yes; the Silver Fox thing is working for him, big time. His hair has always been his strong suit. Or--as Jack Dongaghy says--His Head Suit.
....But... Nobody calls someone Jesus Christ as a way to demean who they are. Of course some people find it deeply offensive when people say Jesus Christ, or God, for that matter, when upset but, at least for me, it's not the same. It's not like saying "You ****ing Christian."

Thanks to SNAFU's 12:41 post, I am now officially heartless. So stand back, Buenos Aires and concern troll!
Namo..
I was wondering if you read Harvey Fiersteins comments about Mr Baldwin and what your thoughts were?
"Alec Baldwin is nuts, but not evil. As someone who has known him for decades I can attest to that.
AND, just for the record, if news cameras and photographers gave you no space, no peace, filmed your every movement, aired your personal phone messages, stuck cameras in the face of your loved ones, allowed you no private space whatsoever for YEARS at a time... I think most of you would react far worse than he.
Those disgusting bloodsuckers who call themselves "reporters" push and prod and provoke like ill behaved teens outside a lion's cage. If the lion eventually turns around and eats the idiot... Well, that's called "cause and effect".
And if you don't believe me - Try having a friend or loved one hold a book up in your face and refuse to remove it. No matter where you looked or moved or how nicely you asked them to stop they keep the book in your face. See how long you'd put up with that nicely. Now imagine that for 24/7 for DECADES by a dozen people doing it!!!
Yes, celebrity has a price, but not to be tortured."

I went with the bear analogy and Harvey went with the lion analogy. It's because I am Harvey, but I'm trying to throw everybody off.
