Yeah, NYadgal, I noticed that throughout the entire show.... totally incongruous walking off music?
Hate to be a bitch, but, I'm kind of over the 9 year old.
There's a fine line between cute and precocious.

I'm very happy for both Jennifer Lawrence and Daniel Day-Lewis. They gave excellent performances.
...and in the end, Ben gets it.
I was hoping that "Lincoln" would bring home the Best Picture award, but also believe that this film deserved it.
Thrilled for Argo and Ben
The BWW "News Desk" is laughable. Who writes this crap?
Anne Hathaway is the recipient of this year's Academy Award for 'Actress in a Supporting Roles' for her performance as 'Fantine' in Tom Hooper's adaptation of LES MISERABLES.
Weird awards. Life of Pi led among the films. Only Amour (which at least got the Foreign Language Win) and Beasts were shut out. Argo won 3 and it is not usual for a BP to be that low, but many guessed that number when the indicators turned seeing Argo win and felt it needed to give Argo more heft which meant moving from Zero Dark Thirty in editing and Kushner with Lincoln in screenplay.
I am trying to imagine the think pieces of Michelle Obama announcing Argo being written right now. And also think of the more insane opportunities like Django Unchained or Zero Dark Thirty being announced and how certain sections of the internet would explode.

I must be dumb. When they announced her, I thought it was a given that Lincoln was winning BP, given the setting. Shows what I know. :-p
No, FLOTUS name-checked Argo, Lincoln, and Beasts of the Southern Wild as her and the POTUS' favorite films of the nominees. Not to mention Clooney is a major backer for Obama. To me it was kind of obvious based on those details and the fact it was winning all of the indicators (which Lincoln never won).
Weird show. It wasn't bad per se, but it wasn't really memorable. No big surprises, no real momentum, no really emotional moments. Seth MacFarlane didn't embarrass himself, but I don't think he'll be asked back, either.
Eight of the nine Best Picture nominees won at least one Oscar. Life of Pi ended up with the most Oscars, with 4. Argo and Les Mis both had 3. Best Picture, Director, and the four acting prizes went to 6 different pictures.
strummergirl, I did not know that. I watched the show to see the musical performances and root for Les Mis.

The envelopes are certified and sealed by Price Waterhouse (or whatever Price Waterhouse turned into in the years since I used to know things) right?
But I can't see the White House leaving the FLOTUS open to having to announce 'ZeroDarkThirty' as the winner, right?
Or is that Conspiracy Theory thinking?
LOL at Rebecca Caine's comment about the Les Miz Oscar performance:
My top C at the end of One Day More? Knocked out of the park, was it?

Sad that Licoln didn't win...best picture by far in my mind. Saw SLP today and didn't love it, but Lawrence was stunning. Not a great film, IMO.
Happy for Argo, which I loved...and think it won because Affleck wasn't nominated for director. Interesting spread of the awards.
I can't believe they got all of those folks to do the les mix number! Barks looked amazing!
I'll catch up on your comments tomorrow morning, but what a boring show.
I had high hopes that McFarlane would liven things up a bit. But he was dull and unmemorable.
I did enjoy some of the surprises (Waltz, the tie).
Zeta Jones rocked it.
Bassey was great, but on whole the Bond tribute was a wasted opportunity.
Streisand looked great but she didn't sound well.
Delighted for all the winners.
Loved that they used the Jaws theme to play off the long talkers. Hilarious.
I think Jack Nicholson was genuinely surprised (and if you watch the video a bit saddened) when he read Crash as Best Picture. But there was that time when Tom Hanks in rushing the show to end mentioned how Best Picture winners like Casablanca that won being about the war that was still ongoing like when it was The Hurt Locker's night that came off as if he knew.
And I agree with Addison, I feel like that particular film being announced at the White House would have caused an even bigger fire storm than it will already. In fact, I think most of the people associated the Zero Dar Thirty would not have wanted that either. Jennifer Ehle actually tweeted how much people would have freaked out if FLOTUS announced that.

I didn't hate Seth MacFalane either. I was honestly surprised that he got asked and got sort of excited because he was good on Saturday Night Live. But, that is a bit different than an awards show that can run over 3 hours.
What did everyone think of the closing number with him and Kristin Chenoweth? It wasn't mind blowing, but celebrities on twitter were saying it was tacky and mean. I get where they are coming from, but I feel like they were sort of overreacting a bit. I don't know. I thought it was kind of cute.
I didn't think it was tacky or mean. The Oscar's take themselves way too seriously which is one of its biggest problems.
Oh, and Day-Lewis' speech was by far the funniest thing of the night. Maybe he should host next year.
Enjoyed the show for what it is...But the surprise of the night for me was I finally made it to Broadway Legend...it only took me 9 years...LOL
Congratulations, Kristie, on your milestone AND your discretion!
I feel like I owe Seth MacFarland a letter of apology. I had very low expectations and found him not at all bad.
And do I understand correctly that posters here think the Academy, PriceWaterhouse AND the White House all entered into a conspiracy to make sure the First Lady didn't announce a winner that some might find awkward?
I can believe the issue was discussed--"What will the WH do if...?" But I doubt the Academy and the accountants risked decades of bragging about their secrecy. Ms. Obama merely announced the winner, she didn't endorse it.
Worse than Zero Dark Thirty could have been Django Unchained.
The internets are going CRAZY with negativity about tonight's show. I thought overall it was pretty good but I haven't seen this kind of hate for something in a long time!
^ Yeah. Everyone is complaining that MacFarlane was boring and it was too long. Well, I can't remember the last time this awards show ended before midnight, so I can't blame length on him.
