I thought it was so weird. But also extremely entertaining. And I enjoyed watching it. Which is really what it's all about anyway. It was a helluva lot more entertaining than 99% of the performances this season.
My first reaction was, "Oh my Lord, waht is that girl doin'?"
But on many levels the performance not only worked, it delighted.
I admit the song itself was terrible (as was the hair) ... but the energy, the charisma, and the moves were awesome. She tore that stage down.
We already know she can blow the roof off with a ballad (last year's TONYS anyone?), but this was unexpected (perhaps even a bit jarring) and royally entertaining.
"We already know she can blow the roof off with a ballad (last year's TONYS anyone?),"
... you dont know how many times I watched that performance on my Tivo!!!!!!! Brought me to tears every time!
Johnny Boy, I thought that was THE performance of that telecast.
I got home late and turned on my TV literally right when they showed Simon's face... followed by the end of the song (and her remark about her dyed-hair). So I deduced it was an expression of amazement (not disgust). Clearly, I was wrong.
But can anyone find the performance on AmericanIdol.com or YouTube? I need to see it now!
Oh, God, that was painful to sit through.
yu shud chanj ur nam too glina tha meen!
I still think it's one of the funniest things I have seen in a while, but for those who didn't get to see it...
Ta-Da!

Tasia, go away. You obviously aren't the real Fantasia Barrino, you are far too intelligent.
Thanks so much Kasie-I felt like seeing it again! However, my parrot hated it. He started screaming on top of his lungs while it was running, lol!
OK I finally watched to satisfy for curiosity. While I don't the the song selection was appropriate for that setting at all she was trying to get her James Brown on. The rhythm section was "tight" and her stage presence is light years ahead of practically all AI alumnae and even seasoned performers.
Granted Fanny is not most folks on here's cup of tea but she has figured out that shock value will get her booked in the absenc of better material.
One final thought, most of our iconic American artists from Dillon to Wonder to Franklin to Madonna in all likelihood would have never even gotten past the regional auditions. AI has never really been my thing nor Fanny for that fact. However, I find here immensely more entertaining that week and week of tepid Barry Manilow/Whitney Houston impersonators.
Can I have David Archuleta if Simon passes?
- UM. EW? He just turned 17.
I found the performance very entertaining. She has more stage presence than any one of those robotic contestants currently on the show.
When they got to Simon's expression, I sprayed my drink out of my mouth all over my computer
Lol, I know. It's priceless!

His hairdo is funnier than his expression.
The MADTV clip was great! LOL

Her back-up singers were carrying the song. She was just screaming through most of it.
Is that considered ‘singing’?
LOVED HER ON THE SHOW. She reminded me of Grace Jones. Loved her.

All she ever does is scream. She won screaming the word "yeah", repeatedly. Everything about her is horrendous to me. I love that AI spoof on MadTV. Here's their original spoof of the show:
