Exactly, and I don't want to. The thought of being shouted at, insulted, and brainwashed into another cog in the killing machine just doesn't appeal to me. Saying that I should have been forced to experience it makes no sense to me.

OK, this is turning into a bigot-eat-bigot HATE thread. That wasn't the intention. Listen to yourselves!

Just delete the thread, please.

Okay, changing the topic.

I wish that the Trading Spouses Mad Christian Mother, James Dobson, the folks who spend their Saturday evenings bombing abortion clinics and the folks who hold signs emblazoned with the words "God hates fags!" outside office supply stores would find another name for the religion that THEY practice. Then all the Christians who are too busy quietly living honest and giving lives to make major news headlines can stop being judged by others, because the crazies will no longer identify with the same religion. Everyday-normal-people-Christians get a pretty crappy reputation because of a few loudmouths with too much airtime.

And, I think that the clothes on Sex and the City were obnoxious. Actually, so were the characters.

Well, your first opinion may not be an unpopular one, but it is one that I share.
New opinion: All "Christians" who spew hate speech and intolerance should be moved to their own island where they can practice their "perfect" way of life.

As a former member of the military - and not a happy one, at that - I can't say I agree with conscription. However, if there were a civil service alternative, where people could participate in the society that so many disdain or trash, perhaps some element of ownership might develop - and maybe the level of apathy would decrease.

I prefer Webber to Sondheim. Think that belongs in unpopular opinions hall-of-fame...

I tried to watch the video of Sunday in the Park 3 times and never made it through more than 30 minutes before falling asleep each time

I also am pro-choice and pro death penalty

and I *HAVE* to respond to the obesity statements, seeing as I'm studying to become a psychologist so have my own personal experience and just observations I've made over the years...first off, ppl don't really understand obese people or their motives if they have never been obese themselves, so don't try to assume you know they're just lazy. The fact of the matter is obese people tend to be unhappy. Why? Without thought, one might say oh they're unhappy b/c they're fat. That's a common misconception. They're not unhappy b/c they're fat, rather it's the opposite...they're fat b/c they're unhappy. Most of the time the kind of ppl who complain about obesity are projecting complaints w/ life in general onto one aspect when that is not really bothering them at all. Moreover, disease aside(and I am someone w/ a disease that isn't totally responsible for my obesity but strongly contributes to it), there is so much more to being fat than lazy. Sometimes one becomes so psychologically attached to food, they bring comfort food to a new level. There have been times in my life where a particular favorite food has been put in front of me and my friends could not understand why I couldn't not eat it, but psychologically I couldn't. Yes it's irrational and it's all projected, but that's the state one gets in. And if you overeat when you're depressed, if you feel hopeless as it is, why would you want to put the effort into exercising when you feel so hopeless? you wouldn't think exercise would help. The key here is I never complained about my obesity, in fact I tried to use it in a matter of fact, I'd say eww I look so fat in this pic my friends would say no you don't and I flat-out say I didn't say that to complain or get sympathy, I was just stating a fact, and it's weird for them to accept that.

This being the case however I'm sorry it still makes me very steamed when a friend who is much skinnier than me complains to me about being overweight. I mean I understand it's an individual thing but she has plenty of friends mroe her weight, it does upset me when a friend says that. Moreover, the truth is(I helped a friend write a monologue about it for a play she wrote), people who aren't fat don't really know what it's like to be fat--to spend half an hour trying to button/zip your fav pair of jeans, to hafta wear a friggin itchy girtle, to look down and not be able to see your feet. If you're upset w/ ppl who complain about being overweight, it's a two-way street. Personally, I don't think anyone should overly complain. We all have close friends that we do hafta share little worries and quirks w/ but you are what you are and anyone can be beautiful in their own way, w/ the right confidence.

People should try as little to judge as possible...when you see a person, usually when you look more into what happened in their life to make them a certain way or understand their need to do things such as obsessions...well if you haven't been in that situation, it's not fair of you to judge.

Gerard Butler sang great in the Phantom movie.

The Yankees are good for baseball.

You could always be doing something more productive w/ your time that will prob be more beneficial to you in the long run than begging for money on the street.

People who beg for money while playing an ipod should be shot.

For absolute heinous crimes, we should bring back torture

Oh, for someone who wrote how intelligent Buffy is, I wouldn't call that an unpopular opinion. Anyone who watched the show and critics all felt the same way, the prob w/ ppl who didn't watch it.

American Beauty was very much overrated.

I have no interest in Lord of the Rings.

"Name" colleges mean nothing-you should never go anywhere to say you went somewhere, and that does not just go for colleges.

Clothes shopping is tedious and boring.

Most arguing is pointless b/c it is very rare where both people are openly listening to what the other person has to say--they are just trying to win, just listening for aspects they can knock down--then there's no purpose in arguing. People are too lazy and arrogant to be able to say okay this is how I feel and I won't change my opinion but let me try to understand why you would feel this way even though I don't agree.

I enjoy spectacle in shows--love the chandelier in phantom, the helicopter in miss saigon, the circle of life and simba's father coming in lion king, the car flying in chitty, defying gravity in wicked, be our guest and the beast's transformation in beauty and the beast, etc.

I don't have any desire to drink, smoke or take any drugs

I don't like soda, hamburgers, hot dogs, any toppings on pizza, orange juice or steak

I prefer tap water to spring water

It's funny how often Cameron's TITANIC appeared on the "Unpopular Opinions" thread. A few more on that:

1. I love the film, but I think it's COOL that other people hate it.
2. The reasons why people hate Titanic are generally funny and valid.
3. Developing a sense of humor about people hating the things you love is a part of growing up.

Skittles, please expand. I wouldn't call obesity a disease, though sometimes it is stemmed from a disease...but I wouldn't dismiss it as laziness either. It's a lot more psychologically involved than people realize. Lots of people are missing voids, whether it be love, or having lost a loved one, or something like that. They eat to fill a void. My point is that for some people their minds become so...invested in this filling of the void that in their minds, telling them to stop eating is like telling them to never see a spouse they love again. I know it's hard for most ppl to understand, but if you don't, don't attribute it to laziness, that's all.

I don't get the whole Cher idolisation thing or the Madonna one either. OR the Fergie from Black Eyed Peas thing
They ALL cannot sing - end of story.

Paris Hilton is a true feral and decidedly unattractive.

Renee Z is a terrible actress.

I think pizza is disgusting.

I'm completely running out of things to say and am almost on the verge of making stuff up just so I can see if anyone arks up at what I say. So, I will stop myself there.

"...But Kungurtseva reels off multiple fouettes and the tape is stopped so she can take a bow. The Jester, an abomination introduced to Swan Lake in Soviet times, extorts applause from the audience. The cuts don't help the storytelling, the production is bare bones and they go for the '50s-style happy ending. The audience cheers like mad at the end. It's the Russian ballet, after all..."

wickedrentq, I wasn't trying to insinuate that obesity was the result of laziness, and I do agree that a huge portion of it is psychological, but the physiological aspects of obesity can't be ignored.

There's a psychological theory that both alcoholism and obesity are addictions that are the result of environmental circumstances, because if you change the environment, the problem can go away.

Example: Cancer is a disease. If you put a person with cancer in jail, the physiological response to having cancer will not go away.

If you put a person in jail with alcoholism in jail, the physiological response will go away, because they don't have access to alcohol. They may go through withdrawal, but withdrawal is a symptom of an addiction, not a disease. If you place an obese person in sub-Saharan Africa, most likely, their problem would go away on its own, because the environment does not allow for their addiction to continue.

Another unpopular opinion: It's my choice not to eat meat just like it's your choice to eat meat. Don't criticize or harrass me about my decision, because I don't criticize yours.

NOT every woman who finds herself surrounded by gay men, either by choice or happenstance, wants to sleep with them or is secretly madly in love with them or is a sad lonely creature who can't find a straight man to love her. Sometimes, *gasp*, they just ENJOY OUR COMPANY!

I was bored out of my mind during "Napoleon Dynamite".

I think Don Cheadle was robbed of the Oscar for Hotel Rwanda by Jamie Foxx.

I hate the circus.

I think it's silly that movie stars and athletes get paid millions of dollars while teachers and nurses barely make ends meet.

Not all single girls are miserable.

I love Passions and Days of Our Lives. I watch them every day.

I'm glad they banned smoking in bars in NYC.

I don't like condiments. any condiments. Ketchup, mustard, mayo, salad dressings, relish...you name it. I like it plain.

I think Jack Nicholson (SP?) is highly overratted.

I was staring at my watch for most of the first Lord of the Rings movie, and I couldn't bring myself to see either of the other ones.

i think that's it for now.

- Except for a very minor change in #1 I agree with everything Lildogs just posted, that has to be pretty unpopular

- Sports stars are not overpaid. If the public wants to waste that much money going to sporting events the people doing the work should reap the benefits.

lildogs, your #10 perfectly describes my feelings on it. Apparently only 5 people in the whole world have gotten it, in Asia, and yet it getting more media attention than AIDS, smallpox, malnutrition, and other sicknesses affecting millions of people combined.
