I suppose it's a cliche', but you DID ask for the favorite:
"Oh, Auntie Em, there's no place like home." - The Wizard of Oz

When Ellen Burstyn cured the little boy at the end of "Resurrection" and nobody but her knew she had done it.
I agree with DGrant. TWOO ends perfectly and is priceless.
Of recent flicks, I must say the last ten minutes of Billy Elliot always brings me to tears. "Billy your family is here..."
Andy - that last scene of Billy Elliott is breathtaking!
Schmaltzy as it may be, I have to say a movie ending at the top of my list would be:
It's A Wonderful Life
The last scene in THE COLOR PURPLE might just be my favorite. Talk about making Matt_G sob.
Love reading this and love all of the choices.
Too hard to pick just one.
the What Dreams May Come thread reminded me how much I love that movie, so i'll say I ADORE the ending to that movie. "I found you in Hell, you don't think I can find you in Jersey?" I love it so much!!
Hey Matt,
Did you know that THE COLOR PURPLE was nominated for ELEVEN Academy Awards and won... NONE.
M_E, I know all that and more.
Another less obvious ending is in Out Of Africa. I love everything about that movie, but the best moment in the movie is when Farah asks Karen to build a very big fire so he will know where to find her. It is a moment so beautiful and poetic!
The last scene in 'Carrie' is the best!
I'm kinda partial to the ending of "All About Eve" when Phoebe steps into the mirror and you see the endless Eve and Phoebe's yet to come...
it finishes the perfect circle with Karin's (Celeste Holm) line from the beginning of the film (she has to meet you -- there is another like you, there couldn't be)

My two personal faves:
Scarlett O'Hara sobbing after Rhett leaves her, and then just simply saying "I'll think about it tomorrow...after all, tomorrow is another day."
Kevin Costner at the end of Field of Dreams, "Hey Dad- wanna catch?" I'm really not a crier, but that ALWAYS gets me.
and my new fave-
Samwise Gamgee returning home from the Grey Havens, and little Elanor is running to meet him. "Well, I'm back." LOVE IT. Crying EVERY time.
Addy - that moment in Out of Africa makes me cry so hard...I love the relationship between the two of them - its hauntingly beautiful.
My favorite ending is the end of ET. The close-up of Elliot's face and then the cut to the credits. It always brings a tear to my cynical eye. On the DVD there's an alternate ending that was shot...I'm so glad they didn't use it...it's perfection as it is.
CLUE, obviously, because there are three endings...
Andy- i was JUST about the agree with you (hence the super cool icon)
"It's a Wonderful Life" gets me every.......single.......time!
Also the ending of "Titanic" where Jack and Rose are reunited......I'm crying like a baby.
It's not a well-known movie, but it's a sure-fire tear-jerker:
Without A Trace. When the little boy has been found and the cop (Judd Hirsch) is bringing him home. The cops from CT and NY escort him into the city...all the while the mother (Kate Nelligan) is going about her daily chores with no idea what's going on. She arrives home - to crowds on her block - and the dog senses something and breaks away from her hold. She suddenly realizes it's her son, drops her groceries and flies to him to scoop him up. It makes me SOB!
WOW, Addy!
"Without a Trace" sounds super-cool--I'm going to have to check it out!

One of the many endings from, "Love Actually". The one where the British guy learns portuguese to propose to the woman he loves. I have seen this movie many times and this scene has me in tears every time!!!
My favorite is THE TRUMAN SHOW.
The score goes:
BONG

TRUMAN: And in case I don't see ya: good afternoon, good evening, and good night.
[TRUMAN bows and turns to exit thru the door. A slight moment of hesitation, but he walks thru.]
M_E - it's actually not a GREAT movie. Very dated (now) and low-budget. Very loosely based on the disappearance of Etan Patz. But, Kate Nelligan is extraordinary in it. And the ending...
