No nomination for Chess for Best Revival, not surprising.

Surprised that de Shields was the only Jellicle nominated. And that Bryce Pinkham got in.

If they snubbed Lea Michele, at least they nominated Hannah Cruz, who quite honestly might deserve to win that category.

Lost Boys and Schmigadoon lead the pack with 12 nominations, followed by Ragtime with 11.

That’s crazy Rachel (whom I thought was horrid) get a nom over Temptress.
Setting up things on a dinner table can earn you a nom for the Lost Boys. Oh Shoshana!

Pinkham's nomination is wild -- I thought that performance was absolutely terrible.
And three acting nominations for CHESS, but not nominating it for Best Revival is also wild.

i'm not. He's quite charismatic and funny in a role that is written very poorly. he's doing great work in that show.

I'm surprised by Pinkham's nomination. His performance annoyed the hell out of me.

CATS was done dirty this morning. Moore's inexplicable snub automatically makes Lewis the frontrunner, in my mind, for featured actress in a musical.
Congrats to all the nominees, as per usual.

With Two Strangers (possibly Schmigadoon) and CATS winning.

Have to wonder if Ragtime can pull off a hat trick of wins in all four performance categories this year. Certainly seems very possible.

For me, just some really strange nominations. Dratch getting in will maybe be one of the bigger “WTF” nominations I’ve ever seen.
I think “Chess” was praying for a f*ck ton of nominations this morning to help them out. Crazy for a show that started so strong.
Also, Cynthia Nixon not being nominated for what truly was the greatest acting she’s ever done, is a crime.

Interesting to note how many Hollywood names came to Broadway this year and are walking out of this season without a Tony nomination in hand: Jean Smart, Ayo Edebiri, Adrien Brody, Jon Bernthal, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Keanu Reeves, Taraji P. Henson, Don Cheadle... probably more that I'm forgetting, too.

Not just Chess, but, like, who is on the Tony Nominating committee? I'd love to find out more about who nominates, because when all the love goes to one or two shows, it feels like we are getting into the same issues the film industry had, where the nominating body gets too siloed into its own perspectives. That's why a lot of those CATS nominations didn't happen, either.

That feels deliberate. But at the same time, these were generally very middle of the road performances in a year with some really great performances.

CHESS being snubbed isn't that big a deal IMO. It wasn't kindly received, and it isn't lasting much longer in NY anyway post-Michele... even if I have to give up my dreams of an Adam Lambert, Brendon Urie, or Martin Johnson Freddie Trumper.
Will it tour? One glimpse at that set and it's screaming for one.
