she's so talented I don't understand. and this show, especially, the choreo is one of the best elements outside of the score!

Best Musical feels like a toss up. Am I wrong? All very light fare and the over the top Lost Boys.
I don’t know which way the wind blows.

In this strange year I think the crafts awards are quite indicative of how much nominations like or dislike a show. TITANIQUE conceivably could have been nominated in all the below-the-lines categories as STRANGERS; it wasn’t.
But it doesn’t indicate much about wins.

Disagree. It's not really a "snazzy" show design-wise (although I'm glad the deceptively simple set was recognized), and there are only two onstage performers, so their nomination haul seems appropriate to me.

Agree the nomination haul was appropriate, but it didn't outperform in the way I'd argue Schmigadoon outperformed. Who is to say...

That, and maybe also has to do with Rocky Horror being such a beloved property. Chess certainly has its cult following as well, but nowhere near as big as Rocky Horror. I think people are also frustrated with how nobody has ever been able to "fix" Chess. Everyone has their opinion on which version of the show works best, and there's little agreement - and this revival compounded those disagreements. Rocky Horror doesn't have that problem.

I don't know that Jellicle underperformed, per se. It hit the minimum of its expected nomination range- it got in absolutely everywhere it was expected to. It didn't rack up performing nominations, but that was always going to be harder with it and it's worth noting that the only performer to be nominated for this production in any major award, off or on Broadway, has been de Shields.

PROOF definitely should have gotten something.

seems wild that PROOF wasnt nominated for....ANYTHING?
not sure i can yet see a ton of clues though about what might win..."

I definitely agree that CATS is 100% still in the running to beat Ragtime, and that these nominations should not be construed otherwise. But alot of its die hard fans predicted a wave of nominations for up to 5 different supporting actors here, and that didnt materialize- notable when Ragtime pulled five acting nominations.

A Two Strangers vs Schmigadoon contest.

I think the buzz was so strong that many thought Moore, Harcourt and maybe others could get in. Only De Shields getting in feels like an underperformance for a show that many thought might lead the pack in noms or at least top Ragtime in that regard.
But it wasn't a bad showing. Obviously still has a good shot at winning. I just thought Cats was pulling away in the revival category and now it feels close again with Ragtime

Congrats to all the nominees, as per usual."
It wasn’t. Tempress doesn’t sing the song well. People come expecting a certain level of performance on that number and she doesn’t blow us away. It’s sad, but it’s true.

That many performing nominations was always very wishful thinking. It's an entire ensemble of scene stealers so I imagine that fragmented votes a great deal.

Not at all. Plenty of shows have won with less nominations than other shows that year. Two Strangers only had two options for actors etc. - and is the ONLY fully new score and book. It's the thing to beat - it and Schmigadoon.

Y'all... Titanique is NOT winning Best Musical. It's close between the other three. But it won't be Titanique.

The level of disrespect they just leveled at Tempress's feet with this snub. And to see Rachel Dratch's name up there instead? Please...

Best Musical looks like a 3 way race, while Revival looks like a 2 way race. (I do not think they will want Titanique, as fun as it is, to be representative of the Best of Broadway).
Play looks like a race between the British import, GIANT, the Pulitzer winning and v American Liberation, or the slighter but funniest option, Balusters. Revival will almost surely go to DOAS.
I think its Josh Henry's year, and Caissie Levy's, but Im not sure whether its Lane's or Lithgow's. And I really don't know what they are going to do with Actress in a Play--Manville seems most likely. Laurie Metcalf will surely win for DOAS (her snub for Bear Ridge somehow makes that feel even more preordained?).
The rest is all over the place. Alden Ehrenreich or Chris Abbott? I can see an honorary nod to de Shields but Bourzgui enchanted the critics. I genuinely have no idea which of musical supporting actresses picks up steam, I guess Lewis is most likely of the bunch, but I really was not impressed with her either time I saw her play this role.

I would be absolutely shocked if Cats doesn't take home Best Revival, despite only one performance nod. While this production of Ragtime features some stunning performances, the other elements (direction, design, etc) are not top-tier, and not what I'd hoped for in regards to one of the greatest musicals of all time returning to Broadway. The strength lies in the writing of the show itself and the cast. Jellicle Ball excels in more areas.

Though we know how much you hate Lost Boys, you’re publicly delusional if you think Two Strangers is the show to beat. Nominations alone, that sentence doesn’t even make common sense.
