Had a wonderful time at the GYPSY opening night with my daughter Danielle and old pal @AndreDeShields. Audra McDonald acted the hell out of Rose and would have made Arthur Laurents proud. Arthur always wanted to see a Black Rose, and thanks to the visionary artistic director Vincent J Cardinal at CT Rep, I was the first to fulfill his wish. And now Audra is realizing his dream on Broadway. Here's to many more Black women tearing it up as Rose. After all, GYPSY is a "musical fable," not a bio. 😘

Actually yes.And it is hardly silly. Racism is about power. It's the reason white people cannot correctly say that black people are racist against whites.."
It's a good excuse for your own racism to play the "I can't be racist because I'm not white card."
As per Merriam Webster " a belief that race is a fundamental determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race"

Your logic implies a black person has never been in any position of power in the history of the USA.

For the record, I'm okay if we choose to reserve the word "racism" for the systematic oppression of members of disfavored minority groups. Clearly that's a historical and ongoing problem that is on an entirely different scale from what people call each other on an internet forum.
Still, it's disgusting to use a term like "old gays" (or the equivalent) to attack someone's opinion.
The fact that ya'll are still debating whether or not comments on this board are racist toward this production, nearly a week after I called it out, just goes to show that the call is definitely coming from inside the house.
Don’t quote me on this, but Tryphena Wade could very well be going on for Rose, along with Shanel Bailey as Louise and at least a few swings when GYPSY resumes.

It's an odd situation since today is Christmas. However, they may use tonight as a put-in for tomorrow's two show day.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I thought Audra and Joy were both brilliant, but I'd be very happy to go see the swings/standbys go on, although I can't imagine what the cancellations would look like. To me, any Gypsy is good Gypsy.

Considering Tryphena going on may never happen again, if she goes on this weekend, I will go and see her!

I wonder why they didn't use Monday as the put-in when that was cancelled.

I mean, we don't know for sure that they didn't. And obviously don't know if the standby performers may also have been sick. Or there are just so many people out that there isn't enough coverage. Could be anything.

Only Gypsy, Chicago, MJ and Wicked had a performance scheduled for tonight.

What doesn't make sense about it? Lots of people are looking for entertainment on Christmas Day and with only a limited number of shows having performances, one that does will stand out. Wicked is a few tickets away from being sold out tonight.

Oh, well."
Just see Chicago again instead...😂
