I guess it’s on. Most people wouldn’t notice missing performers but I’ll wait for a while until whole original cast is in. Wonder when that will be? Audra have a history of missing shows? I thought someone here said she did. Let’s hope not. But certainly understand illnesses.
Four hours until curtain, so it should be a go tonight. Just a matter of who's out.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

And off of TKTS. Really sucks. They had an understudy rehearsal last night and a put-in this afternoon. Bizarre

This is absolutely crazy and not fair to the public. Canceling a performance (virtually the last minute) is just not right!!! They should just cancel this entire week and resume performances when EVERYONE is ready to perform!!!!

Two hours isn't really last minute, unless you live pretty far out.

Despite your extra exclamation points, performances are rarely canceled if there is a chance they can go forward, particularly during peak holiday season.
The show's Insta account posted about tonight's performance being canceled at 5:35. I think we're all sympathetic to what performers go through but 2.5 hours before curtain is just cruel. You're already on the train or heading to dinner at this point. Yes, we care about the cast. Yes, we care about their physical and mental health. But my God - think about the customer paying big bucks to keep you employed. The show should do something extra to try to make up for these last-minute cancellations, IMO.

Good lord, maybe give them some grace. They probably thought through the afternoon they'd be able to have a performance tonight. Nobody loves cancelling a show.

Pull yourself together and go see a movie or something. This show just opened and is going to be around for a little while. You'll have plenty of chances to see this. And wouldn't you want to see this cast when they're healthy? I wouldn't want to watch these poor actors cough and croak through this show, under those hot lights and costumes.

100%! Audra’s still sick and Tyrena is not ready

It doesn't look like anyone is demanding that sick people perform, just that 2 hours notice isn't enough in this particular situation, and I agree with them.

Completely agree. Horrible business practice."
What do you want them to do? They honestly must have thought they'd be ready. Chill out.
I live outside the city but was fortunate to have been in the city for a matinee today. Between matinee Acts and during dinner, we kept checking for an update until I finally got the email at 5:30. We were about to walk over to the box office when the email came through first. Had I been home, I would have been traveling on the train at 5:30 to see the show so would have been out the $30 train fare. If the show was on TKTS earlier in the afternoon, they must have known hours ago that Audra was out tonight so posting the announcement earlier in the afternoon would have saved people the cost and hassle of having to travel to the city for a cancelled show.

If you know your cast and crew are not going to be ready, the right thing to do is cancel more than 2 hours in advance.
I live in NJ, 70 miles away from Manhattan. I would have 100% spent the money to park or take the bus/train by 5:35pm ($50 to park, $40 for public transit, and would have been on my way around 4:30pm) and would have been upset to have done so. They should have canceled this morning.

they essentially waited until after their put-in was finished this afternoon to decide. It has to more than just Audra being sick plus a few ensemble members. maybe they give it a go tomorrow night with tightening up? or the amount of people that are out is simply too many to run the show 100%?

Sending the cover on for a star performer is no small matter. If they’re going to go on then they’d better be ready to give a damn good performance. Otherwise that might be more damaging than the $200K of tix sales they lost per performance. “My favorite performer was out but also the understudy was bad” is not word of mouth that a production should want a week after opening. (This is a hypothetical; I don’t know what the cause of the cancellations is, and it’s probably a combination of things)
It’s also question of HOW MANY people are out and can the existing coverage handle it. A racially specific show is incredibly tough for coverage purposes.
It’s also a safety issue. Broadway sets and backstage patterns are not nearly as simple as they were in the 50s and 60s.
No producer wants this situation at any time, especially at the most lucrative time of the year. But this is the reality. Secretly, I bet some of the healthy cast members are very happy for a few nights off at Christmas, after being so busy in rehearsals and previews.
the word i got for the cancellation tonight was that Tryphena didn't do well during the put-in. there were also a lot of other cast members out as well. probably Tryphena gets her own rehearsal tomorrow and they run a few numbers prior to curtain if Audra is still out sick. Tryphena's first rehearsal was last night.

I'm not suggesting the show go on with half the cast sick and/or not ready but also it's ok for people to be upset or annoyed. Maybe this is their one and only trip to the city for the year. There's a lot of reasons why just seeing it another time might not be feasible. So it's understandable if people are frustrated, especially with the late cancellation announcements being made. That's not the same thing as saying these actors must perform for us no matter how they feel. Just a tough situation all the way around.
I’d rather they cancel then put on an understudy for Audra McDonald. I personally have no desire to see this without her in it. Either way, though, it would be frustrating to have this happen only two hours before the show starts.
