I mentioned in another thread that ALW punted CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL to this season so as not to steal his own thunder that Sunset Boulevard was generating this time last year. I can’t imagine he would allow the same thing to happen here because they would cannibalize each other.

I’ve heard from a pretty credible source (although this was a little less than two weeks ago, and things change in this town at the drop of a hat) that Dolly is coming in this season “whether it’s ready or not”
oh, if Outlaw had only waited until this season. They’d be running away with the Best Book Tony Award…but probably still zero dollars in their pocket

Yeah I figured that as well but I have a source that says that Rachel's schedule might prevent it from coming next season as was planned so if a proper house opens (or can be PERSEADED to open) it might fight Cats just to make it one way or another and basically lock Andrew a win be it Cats or Evita.
What if we are in the timeline that Cats and Evita cancel one another out and Chess wins. Man.... this truly would be the bad place.

In that scenario I hope Ragtime would triumph
Working Girl is coming, but I’m not sure if they’ll push it to next season. The Heart is coming, but I don’t know if it’ll be on or off. If it’s on, I think it’ll 100% win best musical. Quote me on that.

How would she be able to open Evita in addition to doing a short, but time consuming London run of Last Five Years in March? Could that be pulled off? Also, why wouldn’t they have chosen the majestic? Isn’t that open?

Hence my "I'll believe it when I see it" when my source was reporting that. As for the Majestic there WAS a rumored show which is now rumored to be pushing to next season and personal while I know there is an outdoor area there, I don't think the Majestic fire escape is the vibes they are looking for for the outdoor balcony.
I am in the camp that the balcony would be to much of a safety risk (both for performer and the public) to be done in New York so a theatre that could possibly do some kind of alternate option for the balcony limits them and they should wait it out. It's not like Rachel is going to age out of the role anytime soon. Even if it takes two years for the stars to align with her schedule and an idea house, so be it. No need to rush it.

Good point re fire escape on the majestic. I could see maybe a fall opening at the St. James? Who knows! The red tape around the balcony scene seems so difficult, but I hope they can figure it out. Dying to see it live.

The Last Five Years is why it doesn't make sense that Evita is coming in this season.
To qualify for Tony season they need to be open by whatever date it is this year in late April.
Which means they need a rehearsal and preview period leading up to it.
Chess just had an 11 week rehearsal and preview period, last year Sunset Blvd had a 9 week rehearsal and preview period.
The Last Five Years is on from 24th to 29th March, about a month before the last date Evita could open to qualify for Tonys., and even for that 6 day run it would have to have at least a short rehearsal period before that.
That timing just doesn't make sense for Rachel to.do both with the rehearsal and preview period they would need for Evita.

The Heart is terrific and deserves a wide audience. Working Girl is meh on a good day and out of a dozen people we know not a soul liked it. It’s unfixable as there is no reason for these people to be singing and when they do, the songs are mediocrity personified

Just thinking aloud here, but why does Evita need to open in this season? If, hypothetically, the Majestic was available, then couldn't previews start in April and then run through the summer/fall like it did in London. The weather would certainly be better for the crowds who will inevitably be there. If the only downside is that it won't be open for the 2027 Tonys, Sunset announced its initial closure in February before extending a few more weeks and still won its awards. And, financially, wouldn't officially opening right after the Oliviers be great for buzz and attempting to recoup?

I am rooting so hard for The Heart. I'm also very hopeful for a Bat Boy transfer, as it scratches the nostalgia itch that has been moving tickets lately.
Working Girl has a great team, and while I believe your friends, similar critiques didn't stop Pretty Woman from becoming an actual hit....and during its time on Broadway and/or tour, I have never heard a single human being, in the industry or out of it, tell me that they felt Pretty Woman was good. But...it made a profit.
This is shaping out to be a really, really tough season and I hope we get a lovely surprise. But I agree with earlier posters that it seems Two Strangers is going to walk away with this season.
Indicators are blinking for THE HEART and BAT BOY Broadway transfers.

Button not for this season. Working on a more America friendly version. Small house when it does. Hudson?
Working Girl probably not coming this season - needs work and funding. Heart is open to coming if the right size house appears. They may go off broadway while they refine the material. Bedwetter- no idea where it could go size wise.
Winter Garden - play. Jones - Play. Majestic open but huge- wonder if they regret chasing the Phantom away?
Mincemeat, Hadestown, Gatsby, Hells Kitchen, Six, Moulin, Juliet all working/stunt casting to stay open - most selling well enough to last until summer. Any announcements of closings would most likely be in January or February which is really too late for anything but an off broadway transfer.
Probably a smart play to be off broadway and have your finances ready for a transfer. Spelling Bee seems to be the only real musical contender on that track at the moment.

Next season is going to be inundated with new musicals like 2017 where all the musicals that avoided Hamilton came in the season after.

For what houses? They both are small shows. In a normal year they would have options but this season the small musical houses have all gone to plays.

I have a long list of new musicals that are out there trying to get to Broadway including Hippest Trip, Wanted, Bedwetter, The Heart, Working Girl, Goddess, Garden of Good and Evil, Sinatra, Preachers Wife, Millions, Destiny of Desire, Purple Rain, Dolly Parton, Galileo, The Wanderer, Secret Life of Bees, Burlesque, Spring Street, In Dreams, Benjamin Button, Paddington, Ride, Standing at the Sky’s Edge, Wild Rose

I would add '3 Summers of Lincoln' to that list as it was far better than Working Girl. I'm surprised by Bedwetter, as that will have needed massive work after the Arena Stage showing. And really going out on a limb, how about Come Fall in Love, which was wonderful and has now played a few venues in the UK.

I’ve also now heard that the same issue has caused Purple Rain to push to next season too (and I thought they were the one guaranteed spring opening yet to announce!). No one is investing in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil right now, so don’t hold your breath. Galileo is also having trouble raising funds so I’m no longer expecting that one either.
So really the only other musical prepared to make the move this spring is Benjamin Button. That would leave us with 5 new musicals this season. And three nominees for Best Musical at the Tony Awards. Rough."
Omg, that's depressing.

I think the jones is going to a Seaview Star play - maybe Adrian Brody.

There's no shortage of shows that want to come in this season or next, and also houses that they could go into, including the Winter Garden. What would be the point of keeping it in NY?
