Guys don't worry about the age... Jen Ellison was like... 19? when she played the role in Ldn! They managed to make her look 30. But I think the BIGGEST problem is whether she's actually gd! She can't sing/dance/act.... why her? But I still think she's abit better than her Sis Jessica.
Jessica was the one getting a record deal when that family was completely unknown, Jessica CAN sing.

"Don't even TRY to tell me she's talented. This is about money and nothing else, and it's a sacrifice of quality in the name of money."
Thank you, Emcee!
Wasn't the family pretty wealthy and prestigious before Jessica ever got a record deal?
I don't think so, on their VH1 special they said they had to pay for a demo with her grandma's money. But that is not the point, Jessica sang in front of Tommy Mottola and got a recording deal, just by singing. I don't know/care if they were wealthy or poor. She got her deal based on her talent, when she was young and not by being pretty or showing her boobs.

Hopefully, if she does this, it will be in London. Otherwise, I'd get sick of the videos, photo ops, and posters that would be all over Broadway.com. It was annoying enough when Duff joined Hairspray.

I haaaaate Jessica's voice. But the dad is the one who really gives me the creeps. Papa Simpson comes off as such a controlling jerk. The remark he made about Jessica's breasts was uncalled for. Although, of course, none of us know for sure, from what I've read/seen, I think his over-involvement in Jessica's everyday affairs (not just business...but personal) contributed to the break up of her marriage.

Advice: If you don't like the videos, photo ops, etc. Don't watch them! No one is forcing you to.

I know. It's just as soon as you open the site, they advertise for her everywhere.
With Usher as Billy and Ashlee as Roxie, they are really skewing young. What's next, Dakota Fanning as Velma?
This couldn't be happening any time soon, because I pretty sure Ashlee started her concert tour not too long ago.
Though Chicago is known for thier stunt-casting, this would be way over the boundry of anything they've ever done. And this is coming from a person who saw Melanie Griffith in the role. Well, who knows, maybe Ashlee would attempt to dance which is far from anything Griffith did on that stage...

Even if they did contract Ashlee, it wouldnt be until sometime in '07. As far as I know, the Weisslers already have the role of Roxie contracted with different actresses through then. (for the broadway and touring companies, at least)
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...

Poor Melanie, I mean, she tried to dance, she was just bad at it. But she was trying I think.

Ashlee actually can dance. She was a very dedicated ballerina when she was a child, moved to the city to persue it one of the big ballet schools, and she danced back-up for her sister on tour for a while.
I think the role is more demanding phsyically than vocally. I hated Rene Zellwegger (sp?) in the movie, her voice was not up to par at all. Ashlee doesn't have the best voice, but she can definitely move.

I love the "too young" comments. The real Roxie Hart was in her early twenties.
We aren't talking about the real Roxie Hart, we're talking about the character on stage who was originated by Gwen Verdon who was not in her early twenties, to say the lease.

"If this is true, let's just make sure she sings the Chicago score and NOT Cabaret's."
That is the funniest thing I've read in weeks!!!!
In the show, Roxie is supposed to have been married to Amos for seven years, and to have had relationships before marrying him. She is too young for the part as written.

It doesn't change history though. The real Roxie Hart was in her twenties, one of many things the musical got wrong (another is calling the prosecutor the District Attorney. Illinois doesn't have district attorneys). It would be more "realistic" (well hardly, but appropriate) for a young Roxie Hart.
I'm sure Bob Fosse and Fred Ebb did thier research, but it doesn't aim to tell the history of Roxie Hart or Cook County Jail. The role was created for Gwen Verdon, so history or not when casting for the show, Roxie should not be in her twenties.

As much as Im agains marriage at a young age, a lot of people get married very young and even more back then.

She would have been married to Amos when she was 13 or something?
You know what just popped into my head? Leah Hocking as Roxie or Velma. My god, what that woman could do. If Roxie is meant to be played by a...(looks for word...) more mature woman, Leah is not only mature, but she can play sexy.
How old is Leah anyway?
I remember signing an Anti-Ashlee Simpson online petition ( a couple of years ago?) to ask the powers that be to STOP ASHLEE and her faux musical talent (ackkkk). Perhaps someone can create a similar website to try to dissuade the Weisslers from inflicting such a horrid experience on the theatre going public. ENUF!!!!from Roman in Austin, Texas... the official Patti LuPone FANatic
