the Leah Hocking suggestion is fantastic! she really needs to do this role!
I don't think she would be that bad.

She has absolutely NO talent. Bad Idea. Run away as fast as you can!!
I love the "too young" comments. The real Roxie Hart was in her early twenties.
- Duh. but Fosse's vision of Roxie is very different from the REAL Roxie. In the original Fosse production, Roxie was an over the hill woman who would do anything for success before she gets older. Though Liza and Reinking played it in the original. Lets face it both performers had very mature qualities at that time. The revival continued that vision with Ann Reinking, Marilu Henner, and more.. but lately the Weissler's are going coo-koo.

Do we know if she can dance? Lol.
With Usher as Billy and Ashlee as Roxie, they are really skewing young. What's next, Dakota Fanning as Velma?
I laughed so hard at that. My sense of humor is pretty lame at times.
But anyway, let me just say that if you're going to do stunt casting, at least use talented people.
And I've got to say, Roxie Hart has got to be the most strangely cast role in the history of theater.

Yes, Ashlee can dance. She's been a dancer since she was young and was the youngest person ever accepted into the School of American Ballet at age 11. So, at least she's got that going for her.
The singing? That's another story.

Ashlee was at the show today with her father. This might be true!

OMG God forbidd this! I really don't dislike many celebrities, but this girl is just so not authentic, I think she is talentless AND shameless.

Oh, Powers That Be, no! Let this just be a horribly misguided rumor!
I think my laptop is gonna short any second from all the tears.
And I thought Haylie Duff coming to Broadway was the end of the world...

God, it's amazing what their pervert creep daddy will do to try to get them look like an authentic performer. *rolling my eyes*

"I'm sure Bob Fosse and Fred Ebb did thier research, but it doesn't aim to tell the history of Roxie Hart or Cook County Jail."
They obviously didn't, since the historical truths in the original play are very accurate (as they should be, since the playwright was a reporter).
Ashlee CAN dance, and she certainly annoys me less than her sister. However, she is far too young for this role.
What happened to Tori Spelling as Roxie? That's the most fantastic idea I've heard in a LONG time
Elizabeth Berkley as Roxie, please.

I live in Champaign, IL and this morning on the radio it was announced that she will be in the London production....not sure how true it is, but the rumor has made it all the way into corn country!

I wonder why she didn't pick NYC? Ha, I guess she didn't want to face the NYC critics.
on the subject of her age, theres been several other "young" roxies (though the ones listed are obviously older than ashlee but they'll do )
gretchen moll
amy spanger
bryn dowling (u/s)
i've always found the line "im older than i ever intended to be" to be funnier with younger roxie's for irony
I think that if she actually accepts the part, it will be in London, people will boo her like they did at the Super Bowl if she does it on Broadway.

Nobody would boo her. People who go to see the show are probably going just to see Ashlee, so they wouldn't pay $110 to boo the star off the stage.
It was a joke. People don't boo on Broadway, as far as I know.
I think she has no talent as a singer, maybe she still can dance though, since she hasn't been through any dance training lately, she was a ballet dancer way back when she was about 12 years old, if im not mistaken. But she might be able to pull it off. I have seen Melanie Griffith as Roxie and after that, no "stunt casting" would surprise me anymore. I have the feeling that Rita Wilson was pretty bad too(but I haven't seen her, so it's not a statement)

I'm surprised the Fran & Barry Weisler production company isn't called "Must Miss Productions." Whenever I think they've reached a nadir, they amaze me once again.
Are they adding an Irish Jig to the coreography now?

Like I've said before on my comment. She's far too young to play this role. You really think that the audience would believe that she was with someone like Amos Hart? Unless they recast that role, Amos is going to look like her father. Maybe they'll get that one guy from High School Musical to play Amos along with her. It's true that she is a dancer but COME ON.
If we ever needed a hint showing that theater is all about the MONEY and less about the ART, this is a BIG ONE.
I don't think Broadway is about art and it's been that way for quite awhile.
