adding to the humor of this situation, my mom just called me to tell me that on channel 4 (nbc in nyc) they announced that Audra was pregnant and Rihanna was taking over- i'm pretty sure my elderly mom misheard, but maybe this was a brilliant move by Scott Rudin to make people think that Rhiannon Giddens is Rihanna... that will keep the show selling tickets!

""Is it safe for Audra to dance while pregnant?"
She's pregnant, not disabled. Kelli O'Hara did cartwheels well into her pregnancy during South Pacific."
A) I'm happy for Audra and Will. They seem like great parents.
B) Yay, more time to see Shuffle Along!
C) Just saw Sky Pony. Let's stop treating pregnant ladies like they're invalids. (They were awesome, by the way.)

"It's not like SHE just found out she was pregnant today and tweeted about it to get medical advice from the interwebs."
"Just be glad it isn't a 'womb where it happened' joke."
This reminds me why I love this board.

Lol. For those not familiar with Rhiannon Giddens, she's a brilliant young musician. I don't know how much if any theater experience she has. She was a founding member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, a roots/blues music group. I saw them in concert and have seen her solo. I'd buy a ticket to see her if I could get to NYC!

I apologize for my comment. I had the best of intentions. I'm more than happy for Audra
congratulations to audra & will! super bummed that i won't be seeing her in london this summer, and won't ever get to as i was going for a trip this summer. but maybe i'll try and watch the video at the NYPL. hopefully she'll be in shuffle along in november/december?

While I can't say I'm not the tiniest bit disappointed that she probably won't be there when I see Shuffle Along in September (I'd planned my trip around her return), I'm obviously ecstatic for Audra (and Will)! It's absolutely fantastic news! Lucy Durack played Glinda in Australia until she was 5 months and I'm guessing Audra will be about the same (assuming she's around 12 weeks now). It might be a bit rough on the costuming department though!

Annoying Actor Friend would probably LOVE for you all to know he (probably) came up with it first.

That is hilarious! Love it!
Super happy for Audra & Will! I love her quote about tap dancing too, LOL!
My friend mentioned yesterday morning that she really wanted to see Shuffle in late June, and I told her that Audra would have left by the time she came back in town. Coincidentally, I was reading this thread (when it was spec) and the official news broke later in the day and news of her extension, so we sprung for tickets after all!
I saw it last night and she tapped and sang her heart out. She was fantastic!

as a disabled person I find that offensive .

While I'm sure no one meant any offense, lots of physically disabled people can't tap dance. (Heck, lots of able bodied people can't either.) Pregnancy isn't a disability. Any offense would be to the poster that suggested being preggers would keep her from her normal, regular activity.

The way we really should phrase it is "it's not like being pregnant removed her superhuman talents and turned her into a normal person."
Because let's be real. Almost no one can do what she does.

Yikes! Audra is 10 days older than me, I can't even imagine having baby at my age! Good luck to her, and that's not meant to be snarky, I truly wish her the best.

WOAH I can't believe she is showing so much already. Still looks amazing though!
well sh*t no wonder someone (Cindy or whoever) figured it out. it doesn't take a genius to know that's what a pregnant woman looks like.
I looked back at some of the Shuffle Along photos from the show that were released right before or just after opening. In some, her costume is a lavender dress and in those ones, you can definitely see how people put two and two together before the announcement.
Still, the woman is a machine and the baby will likely emerge a better singer then 98% of the population by the time it's six minutes old.

How old is Audra McDonald? When she played Mother Superior in the live SOM broadcast, I figured she was about 35, and thought she was a bit young for the role. However, sounds like she may be older, based on the shock people are expressing about her impending motherhood.
Of course, I'm a disaster when it comes to judging age - I figured Christian Borle was about 33, and read he's in his mid-forties. I guess as I get older, everyone else starts to look like a kid. ?
Audrey ( who would rather be Audra)
Audra will be 46 this July! She looks great but I was definitely shocked.

A very quick google search will tell you her age as well.
