While re watching old episodes of The Simpsons this weekend I was struck by how great Beverly D'Angelo would be as Miss Mona, after being reminded of her country vocals as Lurleen Lumpkin.
I agree a great idea if not a bit on the older side for Mona but also hear that ABC is moving forward with a new comedy once again pairing her together with Chevy Chase.

I can't imagine the financing coming together for a major revival of this relic. Remember when the word "whorehouse" in the title was considered edgy? Those days are long past. It has been a community theater staple for more than 30 years so I doubt it would have much tourist appeal unless it had big stars, and I doubt that any big names would be attracted.
I totally disagree with you . And it has nothing to do with the title being considered edgy or not. And as far as any big name wanting to be attached... what was alluded to in some of the press for this was that there already was. I just wish there was someone more imaginative and creative than Rob Ashford at the helm. But lets hope for a pleasant surprise. I love this show and many others do.
I was just using the title as indicative of the whole retro nature of this musical. And, IMHO, not retro in a good way. Of course I respect your admiration for the show even if I don't share it. It's just too cutesy by half for me.
Wonder which Emmy winner. Someone like Megan Mullally or Jean Smart? I'm so disappointed to hear it didn't come together with Krakowski. She needs to be back on stage ASAP!

--- Not too many that can sing and that are right for Miss Mona other than: Megan possibly Allison Janney or Toni Collette?

Well hopefully this won't be a "by the numbers" Miss Mona. Jane Lynch? She IS a Emmy winner and I recall reading that Annie left her wanting to do more.
This will never happen, but I would just die if someone put Emily Skinner in Mona. She played her for one of those benefit concerts...but that would be amazing. She needs to get her butt back on Broadway for the good of mankind.
Several people (myself included) floated Megan Hilty as a potential Miss Mona, but I don't believe she was ever attached. I've never heard anything about Laura Benanti and I can't imagine her in the role at all.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."

^When she was on Show People with Paul Wontorek in 2014, she mentioned that she was coming back to Broadway in 2016. My theory was that she was going to be in this show (before it was revealed to be She Loves Me).
Yes, she is, and she said she would have a workshop (back in December), but I'm not sure it ever actually happened... I haven't heard anything about it since and she had concerts the whole first 6 months of the year all over the country, not sure when she was in NY for long enough for that to have happened under the radar.
But I wasn't sure if I should believe Page 6 for that reason, or if they might just gotten the show wrong or something...
Kristin could technically do workshop for both though, they might not both happen, or not happen at the same time anyway... She's also attached to Soap Dish that had a workshop 2 or 3 years ago (with Jane Krakowski and a bunch of other big names).
