Hadley doesn't need to belt to sound wonderful EITHER. One of my favorite parts is the act two song "Surrender" I think is what it is called now ("each in time, each man in turn...") is beautiful and far from belty.
I've seen a lot of shows, and a lot of men, and I think he is probably teh best male voice i've ever heard.
and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...
anthony warlow is still the best for me. But live on broadwy now, no comparison out there. No one in Les Mis, Phantom (though howard is kinda great as the Phantom, Wicked, Jersey BOys. Hadley just has it. I think he might even be better than the great Brian D'arcy who I have liked for sometime now.
I've not seen the Pirate Queen, but saw Hadley Fraser in The Far Pavilions in London a couple of years ago and he was easily one of the best things about it (though again struggling with some decidedly sub-standard material).
"I think Jason is fine and I don't think that Hadley has to belt his brains out to be amazing either. He has many soft nice moments in PQ. But the difference is that Hadley can, while Jason, from what I have seen, cannot."
Sounds like someone needs to go listen to 'Floyd Collins'. Jason Daniely most certainly CAN belt with the best of them, and do anything else he wants to do with his voice to perfection for that matter. After you listen to Daybreak and the Riddle Song from 'Floyd Collins' go listen to his 'Younger than Springtime' in the South Pacific concert, and hear the versatility he has.
Both men are amazing, but I will take Daniely and probably a couple of others including Norm Lewis and Raul Esparza over Fraser. Fraser is doing an amazing job with the best song in a crappy show.
**Although he is not performing right now, I can't believe I left out Stokes. He certainly has a place near the top of the pile.

Yah seriously. Just go see Curtains (well don't actually because it's a terrible show). The one good song in the show, however, is Danieley's, where the first half is song without a belt, and then the reprise/second half is done in full belt. He sounds absolutely amazing!
I have got to say that Steven Pasquale has the best set of pipes I've heard from a man in years and years. I think he outsings any leading man on Broadway right now -- including all the names listed in this thread.

Definitely going to go with Jason Danieley as the best male voice on broadway... For those of you who haven't listened to him in Floyd Collins I suggest you do so. Daybreak is just amazing and The Riddle Song..wow. I saw Hadley Fraser in the PQ and while he's amazing...Jason gets my vote.
I'm not gonna hate you in the magazines,

I'm not gonna compromise my Christianity,

You know I'm not gonna diss you on the Internet
Cause my momma taught me better than that.
I'd love to see Hadley do either Billy Bigalow or Che in Evita. I would killed *har har* to have seen him as John Wilkes Booth in Assassins, THAT must've been amazing.
As much as I love Esparza yeah, Fraser's got a better voice at least traditionally. It's so pure. I haven't seen the show yet but I just educated myself via the site that I'm not sure if we can name or not now.
It's unfair of me to judge based on simply seeing video clips I guess, but Brian d'Arcy James and Gavin Creel still have my vote...okay though I guess they are not actively performing on Broadway right now.
I am so mystified, because I saw him as Marius and thought he looked and sounded weird. Haven't heard him in PQ, but he certainly looks much better than I remembered. Maybe it was just his awful Marius mullet.

I would like to completely and wholeheartedly disagree. He has so many technical issues and therefore cannot be considered the best male voice. Also, it's really hard and a little presumptuous to say who the best at something is. It's a completely objective thing to determine.
I think Fraser's was especially horrid, even with the generally high standard of badness set by London wigging. Worst Marius mullet ever?

AWWW! Hadley and Stephanie are ADORABLE! He made TPQ a little bit better for me, he worked well with both Stephanie and Kathy Voitko. His voice is fantastic, definitely one of the best, right up there with my current favorite, Raul Esparza.(His vibrato doesn't bother me at all.) EponineThernardier, where did you get those pictures?

Esparza? who are you? really? that guy has the worst vibrato I have ever heard and I am not exaggerating. His voice is so thin and ...wow. I guess ..really? you are going to go with Esparza? I mean, I would have taken max von essen before esparza. Lazar has a good voice. Dunno how malleable it is to differnt styles. And I don't think we are talking about recordings. Danieley (sp?) on Floyd Collins is good, but i know alot of wonderful tricks and manipulations are done in studios so let's not go off recordings. I mean, people loop, sound louder and fuller as they double their own voice..I am going on seeing Jason in Curtains and being bored with his nasal throaty voice. My opinion. Listen to Hadley on you tube singing I'll be there. its kinda amazing for a 26-27 yr old. Hell for any age.
