Happy trails to Rob Lake and the Muppets.
Tom Felton and Jeremy Jordan doing wonders for old reliables POTTER and GATSBY.

Um, is that right? Tom Felton brought up Harry Potter by 1.3 million? Jesus Christ, I had no idea he was still so huge.

I wonder how many of the people who bought tickets to see him know how small of a part he's in, because by my memory he's on stage for maybe 10 minutes? But they've certainly been doing promo as if he's the star of the show.

An original Harry Potter actor (and one of the main supporting ones) reprising their role on stage was always going to be huge.
Plus there is a lot of affection for him in the fandom

But, loads of shows do that? Casting names in small roles and then doing big promotion around them is a tale as old as time.
Seems odd to call out HP for this

Felton certainly will give the dragging production a shot in the arm but it’s only a temporary reprieve. I also wouldn’t be surprised if that turns out to be a pretty front-loaded success, with returns sharply diminishing as his run progresses.

In a million years, I would not have expected Tom Felton joining HP to have more than a minor positive impact on the box office. Clearly, wrong. I wonder what ticket purchasers think as they exit the theatre, given how tiny his role is.
Can't wait to see if Chess will be impacted by the critics reviews or will prve to be impervious. Everyone I know who has seen it has loved it (that is admittedly only 8 other people) and have already purchased tix to see it again in the spring. I just hope it extends beyond its current ticket selling date, so I can see it again.
Hell's Kitchen has to be bleeding at this point.

Also surprised at the Cursed Child surge.
And very impressed that Oedipus did $850k in a week with press comps / opening. Well done!

I mean I feel like most of them are what I'd consider a "featured part", like in a musical they'd sing maybe one song. But Felton's role in HPCC is even smaller than that, and doesn't even have the distinction of a cameo in the vein of the producers in Gutenberg. I figured there'd be a grosses bump but not on the order of 1.3 million.

I've got friends flying to NYC to see Tom so I think he's far more popular than we - or at least I - thought. HK is doing gangbusters on tour, has it recouped? I'd imagine they could bring back the Tony award winning leads before closing on a high.

Damn. Rob Lake is really going out with a sputter and the sad horn from “The Price Is Right”.
I’m not fully sold that either Felton or Jordan are going to be the saviors of their shows. I agree with Kad that there will definitely be a few weeks of front-loading (especially with the holidays), but the real test is going to be January and February.
Great start for TWO STRANGERS. I can’t imagine they need ton of money to run that operation so unless they sink to under $500K, they’ll be in for a good run.
Announcing an extension for LIBERATION has to mean they have money to burn and probably got a great deal on rent from the Jones since it’s not looking like there are other shows lining up for the spring that haven’t already announced a theatre.
HELL’S KITCHEN is looking more desperate with their stunt casting. Between Yolanda Adams and Ne-Yo, they’re gonna have a hell of a holiday season, but I’m more curious as to why they can’t seem to get anyone on a longer contract? They got Tank back, but for only 2 weeks, and then the other for 4-8 weeks (with multiple asterisks on days they don’t perform).
I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that a lot of these show we perceive to be on the bubble in normal circumstances may end up getting a stay of execution because of the total lack of new prospects for Spring. I’m sure the theatre organizations would rather have a renting tenant that’s flailing in terms of income rather than no tenant at all.

Trust me, I do NOT get it either...the Potterheads are an odd breed...but the word on the street is that they moved $40 million in tickets on the first day of sales for his run alone. So even if it is "front loaded", parsing that out over 26 weeks, it is the very definition of a 'shot in the arm' and in a big way that will definitely keep the show around for longer than I think any of us would have expected at this time last year. And more importantly, I think this casting phenom, along with Leslie Odom's return to Hamilton, are showing producers the power of nostalgia...and keeping a show running right now under this administration, in this economic climate, is MUCH easier than opening a brand new one.
Can you imagine if Rannells and Gad went back to BOM? Or even if Patrick Page went back to TLK? I'd probably buy a ticket to go back...we all need chicken soup for the soul right now and these grosses prove that.

Odom and Felton are at least age appropriate for their respective roles. Bringing back Gad and Rannells to BOM might be a bit of a stretch of your theory since both are in their mid to late 40s. Meanwhile, I could see Christopher Jackson sliding right back into Washington with ease, since basically the role is an elder statesman with soul. Nostalgic casting can only go as far as it not straining credulity.

Thank you - I agree, and meant this very hypothetically. But if it were to happen, why would paying audiences rob themselves of the suspension of disbelief? Would you? I'd be more inclined to buy a ticket because i missed out the first time.
though, my first experience with the show was with Ben Platt and Nic Rouleau, so I was fine ;)
I also have been thinking about Hell's Kitchen's recent star casting - and while those names are gets, i don't think they hit in the same way. They are gambling on 'new star' recognition, while HPCC and Hamilton are gambling on nostalgia. We'll see what sticks out in the coming weeks, but to me, it's pretty obvious what is working.

Watch Aaron Tveit head back on over to MOULIN ROUGE! just a few weeks after CHESS closes.

It will still flop but I think it would be disingenuous for anyone to suggest they aren't a LITTLE surprised by the Queen of V grosses. These are not pre-booked sales before performances started. There appears to be at least a small crowd of people Kristen is bringing in.

I saw somewhere on socials that Ne-Yo was joining Hells Kitchen? Is that true? That'll be a major get.
