Can’t say how I know this, but some high profile Broadway show cancellation announcements are imminent.
The Public has cancelled the first two performances of Hamlet in Central Park, tomorrow and Friday.

From Vulture's article about Comer:
On Twitter, others in the Broadway community expressed their concerns with the poor air quality in their theaters. One Wicked performer tweeted, “The dressing rooms and backstage areas today smell like smoke, everyone is having trouble breathing.” A Broadway usher tweeted, “I’m currently in the middle of an ushering shift and have had to use my inhaler 4 times … I could barely hold a conversation during intermission because I couldn’t breathe.” A performer in Parade tweeted at Actors’ Equity, “everyone in our Broadway show has headaches and sore throats and trouble breathing to sing. We’re on a smoky stage and not in our dressing rooms where our air purifiers are. HELP US!!!!!”

And in classic style, they wait until many audience members are on their way to the theatre to make the announcement. FFS.
Such late notice for most theater goers. I'm surprised that no matinees were canceled but if people cannot literally breathe at the theater, no one should perform tonight. This will pass but until it does, stay safe all.

Yep, I’m more pissed about that than if my performance gets cancelled (highly likely, I would guess). I could have stayed home with my air purifier instead of venturing out in this… ugh.

I'm not sure you weren't believed but it's highly irresponsible to cancel performance when the audiences have already ventured out into the hazardous situation only to cancel on them. If this was going to happen it should have happened much, much sooner.
I say this as a medical professional - when I left my shift today at 3:00 (in Central NJ), the smoke and haze was SO bad that I needed to put on my industrial N95 that I used during the worst of COVID (it was in my car) just to drive home, and I have no history of respiratory issues.
It felt like I was inhaling campfire or chili pepper - so I couldn’t imagine singing, dancing, or doing an extended monologue in these conditions.
The responsible thing would be to cancel tonight and tomorrow at minimum since the situation does not look like it will improve and it will keep performers from having to venture out and risk getting to their old and dusty theatres only to be turned around.

Paulson in NYT: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/06/07/us/canada-wildfires-air-quality-smoke
"Broadway’s theater owners and producers held an emergency meeting Wednesday afternoon, but, mindful that many patrons and performers were already in place for the evening’s shows, decided to let shows continue with their performances that night. There were 31 performances scheduled to take place at Broadway theaters on Wednesday night.
“Broadway remains open this evening and most shows are set to perform,” the Broadway League’s president, Charlotte St. Martin, said in a statement.
The decision came as air quality levels in New York reached record levels of unhealthiness, and as many other organizations, including the New York Yankees, were canceling events — initially mostly outdoors, but then, as the haze lingered, indoors too."

CAMELOT and HAMILTON were the only ones to cancel and they wait an hour prior to curtain. Why decide last minute when this was a clear issue all day? Doesn't give ticket holders a chance to find an alternative.

Typical of AEA they just don't care. Even with a mask on the air is bad walking outside and the index reached just under 500 - Hazardous level the mayor stated around 5:00. So why didn't they cancel evening shows at that time? I applaud the producers of Camelot and Hamilton for canceling as it shows they care for the welfare of their cast-crew! Did any other shows cancel for tonight?

At least for Hamilton it sounds like it was the performers who made the call, since so many called out sick that the show couldn't go on. The producers likely were intending to go on with the show otherwise.

No one wanted this air thing to happen.
No one wants to cancel shows.
I imagine there was a ton of activity all day, especially after the matinees to make improvements for the evening shows.
Anger and blame isn't helping.

This.
It's an easy call if some or all of your principals band together and say "we aren't performing in these conditions because it's bad for our health and the long-term of our voices."
Apparently Shucked IS going on tonight (7:30 performance), but as a staged reading / concert version.
There's a bunch of people out at A BEAUTIFUL NOISE tonight including Robyn Hurder.

We already know Ms. St. Martin doesn’t give a rats ass about the performers/musicians/crew so this is not surprising
You gotta marvel at Charlotte St. Martin's uncanny gift to always know how to say exactly the wrong thing.
Like it's truly something to behold.

Charlotte needs to go bye bye. All shows should be canceled with this air quality
