A full description would be wonderful from anyone who cares to write one. I wish so much that I could have been there.
For the most part, just certain big character moments (such as Harry talking his drink while his wife's licking the brownie plate) got huge applause. Each character's big moment seemed to have this happen.
The only really standout moment was during Marta's presentation on peoples' asses. Raul had an odd response, like a "Hmmm" that I hadn't seen him do before, and it got a huge response, and then he broke character for a second and laughed, and Angel fought to control hers.
Also, when the cast returned to the stage at the beginning of Act 2 and the audience went nuts, you could see some of the cast members holding back smiles, except Barbara Walsh who couldn't control it, before immediately going back into Joanne's blase stare.
"Not Getting Married Today" got a huge response, of course.
Cathy (Kelly Jeanne Grant) looked like she was holding back tears during her moment with Raul in the park. Talking about a time to come to New York and a time to leave.
People were standing up for "Being Alive" before Raul finished the song. It was truly a remarkable performance.
Regardless of whose name is on the Tony, I think we all know who gave the best performance of the year.
.....David Hyde Pierce.
I wish I had been there. I thought the revival was lacking in some areas but I can only imagine the chemistry between the audience and the company. I would have loved to see Heather Laws showstopping performance during her big scene as well as her saying "I don't even believe that myself" for the very last time. I can't believe a cell phone rang, way to ruin a performance.
Ooh! I'm all up for PBS recording GREY GARDENS. I loved COMPANY and can't wait to see it on DVD.
Did anyone else notice that Raul kind of stopped playing during "Being Alive"? I broke down when he started playing and everytime I heard it on my way back home I was on the verge of tears again.
All around the show was incredible. I loved Angel and Raul's scene. Leenya and Raul's scene was the most touchy-feely that I had ever seen it--it was adorable.
Heather as always was hilarious.

Count me in on the Grey Gardens recording request. I eighth it!
I wasn't able to see Company, but I wish I could have been there. It sounded incredible, but a little sad at the same time.
The Dreidel Song?
Well, it surly must be true...
You really CAN'T succeed on Broadway,
If you don't have any Jews!
Aww hell...it was funny to me!
:)
Despite the ignorant cell phone user,
THREE CHEERS FOR COMPANY!!!
It was the most STUNNING and HEARTBREAKING afternoon in the theater. The cast was on fire. There were MINUTES of cheering/ ovations after each song..Angel and Raul broke character during the "ass" speech. It was great. "Being Alive" was more touching than ever this afternoon. The bows everyone was crying. It was so sad. Raul cried and gave an amazing speech. It really came from the heart. This show will be SO missed.
And to the person whos phone rang playing dreidel dreidel dreidel, you're an ass.
PS
Heather's baby dressed up as Amy ROCKED!!

Sail to the stars...
It was an incredible performance this afternoon. Raul was just brilliant, as were Barbara and the rest of the cast. I was not thrilled about it when I saw it in previews, but I'm so glad I got to see the closing performance. I really appreciated Doyle's staging this time around. The cute moment between Angela and Raul during their scene was awesome. Barbara really tore up "Ladies Who Lunch"...she was incredible (and that person with the Dreidel cell phone ring should be shot). "Being Alive," as expected, got a standing ovation and tons of well-deserved applause for Raul. His speech at the end was really wonderful...telling the story of their journey from Cincinatti to Broadway and thanking the ensemble and everyone involved. What a thrilling afternoon of theater.
I can't believe HOW fast everyone stood up after BA. It was like the audience was on cue HAHA.
Absolutely amazing performance. Stunning.
Did anyone else see Barbara Walsh stare down the person whose cell phone rang? I would not want to be on the receiving end of that. I gave her kudos on it (among other things, of course) after the show.
The cast was wonderful at the stage door after the show. I haven't done the stage door thing in awhile but other than it being a bit crazy at times, it was a great experience.
yes, she did give the stare down! what did she say about it at the stage door when you mentioned it?
does anybody have news on the tour of the show? if it happens, will any of this cast go? also, does anybody know of future performance engagements of this cast elsewhere?
There's never been news of a tour. They seemed to put all the effort into securing filming of this production instead.
a lot of them said they were taking long vacations, including Raul. Heather's baby came out in a matching outfit it was so cute. I have pics, I'll try to post them.
ok, i dont know how to do it so I'll put it as my pic.
Also, Today's performance was amazing, but no way did it beat Sweeney's final performance, that was the best performance I have ever seen.

How is Broadway on the verge of a golden age? I don't follow...
Did anyone else notice that Raul kind of stopped playing during "Being Alive"?
Yeah, I did.
I really don't have anything to add that hasn't already been said. Today was amazing.
Did anyone else see Barbara Walsh stare down the person whose cell phone rang?
Haha, yes!
The entire show was fantastic. (And there ends my in depth review.)
Oh, I have to mention how much I enjoyed watching them "rock it out" (for lack of a better term) during "You Could Drive a Person Crazy". The last time I saw it, I didn't notice how much fun the other cast members while have playing the instruments.
I'm sure I'll interject some more substantial thoughts in the future.
It sounds like the show was incredible today. Must've been really something to experience. I wish I could have been there to witness it.
But I am thankful that it was preserved through PBS.
Brilliant performance.
Being Alive was out of this world. I was sobbing like a little baby.
I'm sure it was. And after every performance, I always wonder how that number could possibly get more powerful.
As for the cellphone, *cringe*. Really, people.
