Gabi Campo will be Sally all weekend. Paige Smallwood is out on vacation.
Last night had several understudies.

Oooph. I’m going tomorrow night. While I’m sad I won’t be seeing Eva, it’s Orville I’m most excited about. 🤞🏻 How is Gabi’s performance in the role of Sally?

Don’t ask for exact figures, but he was out semi-frequently. The absences started in his very first week, but allegedly was quite ill. His performance, however, was not particularly well received from what I have heard and read over the last several months. From the snippets available, he played the character as: Billy! Does Cabaret! In LOOOOOON-DOOOON!
I wish the production wasn't so try hard, minimalist, and yet so expensive to maintain.

Jordan, regarding Billy..... you forgot to stare , in silence, for fifteen seconds. Then turnto the window and sigh, “What a beautiful day.”"
“What a beautiful day” will now forever be shorthand for not liking something.

Sung Oklahoma-style for extra effect.

Gabi has gone on a lot. Not sure who else is out tonight but they used five swings last night.
Any rumor or speculation on whether Eva will be back in tonight? I’m assuming I’d be able to tell if I were to buy a ticket at the box office at half hour, right?

She was in all this past weekend -- so chances are pretty good.

Yes Billy's attendance was pretty difficult, I think he regularly missed matinees. I will never understand the hate for his performance though - he definitely played the emcee as a kind of 'Billy Porter' personality but that's what I loved about it (didn't Alan Cumming just play.a hyper sexualised version of himself?). I see the role as something where a strong personality and stage presence greatly adds to the role (Eddie Redmayne did not have the presence or voice in comparison). I saw it twice to make sure I thought I saw what I saw, and he was even better the second time.
Every note he sung (except when he cracked on a few occasions and 'Money" which didn't sit well in his range) sounded gorgeous in that kind of husky Jennifer Holliday-inspired, deep layered sound. You could hear it immediately in the opening number and it would be shown in spectacular fashion during "Tomorrow Belongs To Me" and "I Don't Care Much". He gave 100% to the dancing, stage movements, talking to the audience/waving to the balcony. For his age, this can't be easy.
The audience seemed to love him both times, and yet online on that west end board or reddit people just didn't seem to like him in the role. Oh well.
I want to see him and Marisha go to Broadway to hopefully show that the London theatre goers are just a bit out of touch - although obviously Jordan knows what he is talking about so I recognise I am in the minority. I kind of loved Billy in Cabaret like I loved Bernadette in Follies. The quirks in personality and voice are part of the charm, but the foundation that makes them both brilliant still there.
"For his age, this can't be easy."
WTF? He's 55. He's not 80.
Just saw this again, and think it remains a politically confused and flat production with some interesting images. It is an...entertaining night with a cool vibe that makes me feel squeamish in all the wrong ways, too conceptually muddled and bombastic and committed to selling you an Exclusive Experience (Of Buying Expensive Drinks) to avoid feeling exploitative of its subject matter. Cabaret simply requires more specificity, insight, and honesty than I see here. Especially today.
BUT.
The current stars were sensational! Eva was maybe the best-sung Sally I've ever heard live, and Orville was very exciting. He also seemed to be doing a more human take on the Emcee than the almost supernatural creature this production opened with. It helps the evening tonally, and I think I understand the track he is taking in how he approaches the idea of this person repressing himself. Which I appreciated, even if it makes even less sense with some of the fixed staging choices.
I felt complicated!

Did Orville Peck wear his mask?
Only for the curtain call, bespoke to his final costume. Which was kind of a funny idea. Though the Emcee's makeup is often so mask-like in this production that it was still kind of effective when we would see him without anything.
Both Orville and Eva are out of the matinee

I just hope Eva takes a much needed break after this. I don't want to hear she's going back into Hadestown or Gatsby.

Several people on Reddit are saying it's Billy and Marisha.
Billy was just announced for the Hunger Games movie that starts filming next month?
It’s ran its time. Close it.
They need to get a big star. No musician with a one hit wonder will sell (according to sweaty)
that shouty asshole on tiktok has claimed for months that the current london cast is coming over, which I believe. He also claimed that Miley Cyrus came close to a deal and then backed out, which I don't.
Agreed about the Mikey Cyrus rumor. She's not being the 4th/5th replacement in a show. If she ever does Broadway, it'll be originating a role in either a new musical or a revival.
