What did everyone think of Chtty? I thought it was great for 5 year olds. It was really sketchy at parts. I have to admit, I did laugh at parts...because they were so stupid. I want your opinion, though.
loved Maxwell and Kudisch! It's worth seeing the show for them. The rest of it failed to engage me, I was very disappointed because I gre up on that movie. I think its sorta the same as Mary Poppins, nothing can equal these classics in their original form. Also I thought Raul Esparza was really disappointing both times I saw Chitty. He lacked any kind of emotion; I don't see what the big fuss is about him, I thought he gave a terribly weak performance. Erin Dilly was fine as truly, and the kids were cute but forgettable. The "spectacle" of the car was kinda disappointing, I'll go ahead and say it. Loved the child catcher he was hysterical. Overall I loved Maxwell and Kudisch and coulda skipped the rest (basically the 1st act)
The performances are superb, and make the fluff work. Had they not cast such great actor/singers, I could have cared less about the show. Maxwell is everything, and then some. Simply amazing.
I agree with Em. It isn't high art. And I think you have to know that going in. It's a fun show, not deep or profound. Take it for what it is. I come out of the theatre smiling everytime I see it.
And Em. I like the first act better too!
What is your dream role?
My dream role would be to be myself. To be performing at the Hollywood Bowl and to have an audience there just to see me, as Stephanie. They are there because they like what I do as a singer, an artist and a person (the last being the most important). I enjoy escaping and portraying other characters, but to be accepted and wanted as yourself... that's amazing! --Stephanie J. Block
Just one of the many reasons I admire and respect Stephanie!!
I found it to be an extrememly poorly slapped together show that had no sense of plot (there was a story there but it didn't know how to tell it) or direction. Yeah, some of the performances were pretty good, but it still remains to be quite possibly the worst show I've seen on Broadway (in my eyes).
Well my main problem w/ the first act was that esp. as it wound down, it seemed to drag b/c all I was doing was waiting for the car to fly, that along w/ Jan and Marc in the second act I think makes that a stronger act.
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

Edited...hrmph, I had wound, but kept staring at it and then wrongly changed it. I like math a lot more than grammar.

I agree with what ya'll said about it not being high art but that totally didnt stop me from enjoying it. I thought the set and costumes were phenominal.... at some times really beautiful. It kept me engaged the whole time and I really enjoyed it. But if you are looking for an oscar (tony) winning performnace role.... well, you probably wouldnt find one to fill in this show.
I enjoyed it a lot. To me, it was mindless fun. The cast was steller, probably one of the most talented ones I have ever seen. I am glad to have been able to see it (twice) and am sorry it didn't make it on Broadway.
