Posted: 12/18/05 at 11:10amWhat did everyone think of Chtty? I thought it was great for 5 year olds. It was really sketchy at parts. I have to admit, I did laugh at parts...because they were so stupid. I want your opinion, though.

Opinions will run the gamut...
Plenty of people here really enjoyed it. Plenty, well, didn't.
The praise is fairly unanimous, however, for Jan Maxwell.
re: Chitty#2
Posted: 12/18/05 at 11:33amI loved it. And yes, Jan Maxwell and Marc Kudisch are the stars of the show.

Posted: 12/18/05 at 11:41amWell, I think it's harmless fun. Not high art, but I love it for what it is. And for its leading man.

Took my two grand kids to see it. 10 and 11 years old. Their first Broadway Show.
They loved it and asked me if I would take them to see it again.
If it was still playing in 2006, I certainly would have taken them to see it again.
RIP Chitty. You did give many great pleasure while you were alive.

Posted: 12/18/05 at 12:40pmloved Maxwell and Kudisch! It's worth seeing the show for them. The rest of it failed to engage me, I was very disappointed because I gre up on that movie. I think its sorta the same as Mary Poppins, nothing can equal these classics in their original form. Also I thought Raul Esparza was really disappointing both times I saw Chitty. He lacked any kind of emotion; I don't see what the big fuss is about him, I thought he gave a terribly weak performance. Erin Dilly was fine as truly, and the kids were cute but forgettable. The "spectacle" of the car was kinda disappointing, I'll go ahead and say it. Loved the child catcher he was hysterical. Overall I loved Maxwell and Kudisch and coulda skipped the rest (basically the 1st act)

Posted: 12/18/05 at 12:42pmThe performances are superb, and make the fluff work. Had they not cast such great actor/singers, I could have cared less about the show. Maxwell is everything, and then some. Simply amazing.

hated the first act
2nd act was good, Jan was amazing, didn't get to see Marc though
but Jan made that ok, made the show worth it

Posted: 12/18/05 at 12:46pmjust another thread for me to say Jan Maxwell rocks my world and i'm gonna miss her
re: Chitty#10
Posted: 12/18/05 at 12:51pmI think I'm the only person who likes Act I better than Act II.

I agree with Em. It isn't high art. And I think you have to know that going in. It's a fun show, not deep or profound. Take it for what it is. I come out of the theatre smiling everytime I see it.
And Em. I like the first act better too!
re: Chitty#12
Posted: 12/18/05 at 1:31pmI found it to be an extrememly poorly slapped together show that had no sense of plot (there was a story there but it didn't know how to tell it) or direction. Yeah, some of the performances were pretty good, but it still remains to be quite possibly the worst show I've seen on Broadway (in my eyes).

If Chitty is the worst thing you've ever seen on Broadway, I almost envy you.
I find the story on stage much easier to follow than it is in film.
Gretch, we win.
I like it 'cause it's happier!

Well my main problem w/ the first act was that esp. as it wound down, it seemed to drag b/c all I was doing was waiting for the car to fly, that along w/ Jan and Marc in the second act I think makes that a stronger act.

re: Chitty#20
Posted: 12/18/05 at 2:15pmI agree with what ya'll said about it not being high art but that totally didnt stop me from enjoying it. I thought the set and costumes were phenominal.... at some times really beautiful. It kept me engaged the whole time and I really enjoyed it. But if you are looking for an oscar (tony) winning performnace role.... well, you probably wouldnt find one to fill in this show.

re: Chitty#21
Posted: 12/18/05 at 2:17pmI enjoyed it a lot. To me, it was mindless fun. The cast was steller, probably one of the most talented ones I have ever seen. I am glad to have been able to see it (twice) and am sorry it didn't make it on Broadway.

Posted: 12/18/05 at 2:23pmSaw it back in May and loved it and I'm seeing it again on Tuesday. *crosses fingers for Kudisch and Maxwell to be there*
