DEATH BECOMES HER Reviews — Page 35

It's possible she caught the show and asked the show to keep it off social media, but I'd say that's less likely than she simply hasn't seen it. She did send Megan Hilty flowers on opening night, though!
I've also gotten the sense that this is not a film Ms. Streep particularly enjoyed making, so she may or may not be interested in seeing a stage version. Either way she hasn't commented on it publicly, so...shrug?

Death Becomes Her: code SAVE25 (25% off) performances 9/23-10/9 and 10/21-11/5
There hasn’t been any notice/announcement from what I can see, but do we think there are vacations happening during these two week chunks? Or just general sale? I was surprised, considering this should be just before Jennifer & Megan’s contracts are up.

Caught the show for my 3rd time last night 9/24 evening --- all of the principles were in and were on *fire*. How Megan and Jennifer do what they do is like a magic act --- every song / comedy bit / banter between them just seemed effortless, which we all know is *very* much not the case, they're superstars. Sieber remains a total genius (as usual, IMO.) and Michelle Williams was in fantastic voice and felt a bit more relaxed / played the Faustian-temptress element better than I've previously felt about her performance. And every member of that ensemble!! Just perfection and the spirit and energy they projected from the first moments was palpable and wonderful.
The audience was in the palm of their hands from the opening number and was having a blast but also totally respectful (no phones, etc) and during intermission everyone was raving (including some new friends I made who'd never seen the movie.)
If you haven't gone or want to revisit the 25% code is a very good deal / it's often at TKTS, and beyond the announced dates, the leads will more than likely be there. I don't necessarily know how this show recoups - you can see the money onstage - but I hope it has a long, wonderful run. Hours of joy when we really need it (I mean, when don't we need joy? :-)

I am glad to hear all that, JT2030! And yes, we need more joy these days and this show hits the spot!

Betsy Wolfe is Madeline, starting January 16th. Megan Hilty’s final performance is January 4th, and I’m assuming Dee Roscioli will fill in between them.

This is just a real tragedy for the hordes of people banking on Wolfe making her Joy Mangano star turn on the Great White Way this spring. Sorry, Ken.
In all seriousness - this is fantastic news. Yay!!

They have their whole stable of Madelines - Dee, Kaleigh, and Natalie so I presume they will rotate the role (especially since the winter is a harsh time for vocalists).
As for Wolfe - she’s not the pick out of the box I would have thought since I never got “grande dame” energy from her, but she’s certainly grown as an actress and singer in the last decade and, considering the replacement casting is highly anticipated, the show must have confidence in her to take over big shoes.
The question is now who are they going to get as Helen opposite her? The names I have heard (please take with a grain of salt since my source said it’s still up in the air) include Eden Espinosa, Autumn Hurlbert, and Marisha Wallace.

I LOVE Betsy Wolfe! Looks like I will be doing a third visit to this next year!

I do not see Helen in Eden, I'm Sorry.

Well, at least the 5 people that got to take their mops home will remember it fondly!!! ;)

I should also mention that today marks exactly one year since Wolfe was last on Broadway, and opposite DBH's co-composer's husband, no less.

I still haven’t opened mine yet. I’m saving it for a rainy day.
But the free mop and Charl Brown’s “We Sell Stories” made the $19.99 I spent on Rush MORE than worth it.

And today's announcement says she will back in January to take over from Megan Hilty in Death Becomes Her; https://playbill.com/article/betsy-wolfe-will-be-death-becomes-hers-next-madeline-ashton-in-2026

I'm intrigued to see what Wolfe will do with the role and if she'll rise to the occasion. I'm not from NY (or the USA for what matters, hi from Brazil :D) so everything I see from Broadway if from my computer, but from everything I've ever saw Betsy Wolfe in, i've found her lacking in... seasoning. Still hoping for the best since I love this show!
(And please GOD I hope they find a good Helen replacement!)

I don’t know why, but I feel like Patti Murin would be a great Helen opposite Betsy’s Madeline.

To celebrate the musical's one-year anniversary of its first Broadway preview, Michelle Williams and four of the show's ensemblists took to the Today Show this morning to perform "Don't Say I Didn't (Warn You)":

Milligan would be brilliant.

Milligan is maybe the only person on broadway capable of delivering Helen's comedy and also hitting those insane Smiard High Notes. She'd be spectacular, and you know what, in a show all about Body Image, I'd LOVE to see a full-figured Helen Sharp rock that red dress.
