re: the Ignore function, I think we weren't seeing it being used and removed it in an update, but I've reached out to our programmer to see if it can be added back in since I'm sure we saved the code somewhere (hopefully). If not, we'll recreate.

Rob,
That would be much appreciated and, I suspect, much used.
Got it. I'm at the airport now, about to hop on a flight to LA, but stay tuned!

Well, I'm excited to see Rob appear in the thread... and this snippet gives me a lot of hope:
but is doing nothing but baiting and spamming (which we probably should add)
Yes, YES! A thousand times YES!
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very cool, Rob. It would definitely take the tension away from posts and posters.
I'm not sure what sort of CMS you're using for the message board. Wordpress hopefully? But there are so many handy plugins or shared codes out there that should make it relatively easy to implement. (At least I hope.)
In any case, I know the gang here would be hugely grateful.
Thanks for hearing us on this, Rob. I'd love to spend more time here. (I confess one troll in particular came very close to killing it completely for me.)

I would love to have the IGNORE button back as well.
The troll (that has been mentioned on this thread) just brings so much negativity to all discussions. I know it's a message board to discuss all points of view but whenever she comes on to any topic, the threads get derailed to be all about her. There's already enough negativity in real life that I don't want to see it when I come here to escape and discuss things that are of common interest.

I worry that once we get the Ignore button back, the storm will simply create new username after new username.
Each time it takes a new name, you ignore that one.

Based on the (successful) experiment several weeks ago, iluv, it's clear that particular troll -- just like most others -- suffocates when ignored. Even if it creates another name, press the button and that's it! So much easier. I'm thrilled.
So how does the ignore button work? I assume it would delete any posts in a thread from anyone you have on your ignore list. Wouldn't that make threads confusing? People you have not ignored respond to people you have ignored so much of a thread might not make sense?
Don't get me wrong...I'm all for it!
if you "ignore user" then that user's posts won't show up on your computer.
The posts are still there, and yes people will comment on them so it does get confusing.
It's really not a very elegant solution, but I can't think of a better one.

I have a feeling 90% of us would ignore the same users. That would hopefully make things less confusing.
Well, fortunately, those who will be most ignored are not worth replying to.
Let's just tell it like it is. If the ignore button returns, every poster will hit ignore to Suestorm. There is not a single person on the boards who is engaging he/she/it in normal conversation.
Really Rob, people are not over-reacting. Things have gotten out of hand, truly. Let's just take Stevie3 as an example. In each of the last three days he's started a thread lambasting Matilda. Now, lots of people here disliked Matilda or at least didn't love it. But his entire demeanor is to ATTACK anyone that deigns to disagree. How can your people NOT recognize that? Then there is Jim Colyer that posts his racist, sexist and disgusting song lyrics. But you allow it to happen. The "man" is entirely offensive to mankind.
To round things out, any time I do submit a report, I always get a little notice saying I'll hear from BBW shortly. I never do. To be honest, I don't care about hearing back, but don't tell me you will contact us, if you aren't going to.
While Jim Colyer does largely keep his racist views off the site, his songs HAVE become increasingly sexist. And he includes a link to his website, where one can find such things as a very positive review of David Duke's book.
I'll be honest, his lyrics scare me.
They are more than sexist, they are sometimes a little violent.
I'm always waiting to hear about some horrible act of violence he's committed and living with the fact that those "lyrics" were a warning sign.
I would be thriiled to see the ignore feature return!
I used to have fun with the lyrics, changing stuff around, ribbing on them.
Some of them actually make me uncomfortable. They are sexist and misogynist to an obscene degree and do not belong here.

Getting rid of Colyer entirely would be a real coup. As for the storm? I'll just clicking that button, gang.
On another board I visit, you can block posters but it just blocks their post so when scrolling through a thread, you can tell you've skipped over something (with the ability to unblock that post.) Same thing with downvoting, it's hides the message but you can clearly tell that there was somethin you are skipping.
Perhaps when hitting the "Ignore" button, a message will appear on the thread: "I can't.....I'm in tech!"
