Denzel’s wife was asked about his Tony snub and she did not hold back. Believes they’re narrow-minded. Guess it could never be that there were just better performances :
Pauletta Is Not Happy
Obviously she's gonna support her husband but LOL. "Been through this a lot of times" ? The man has two Oscars and a Tony among many other accolades. Maybe he should have been better in the part.
He has a Tony already, so clearly they're not that narrow minded.

Well I was NOT happy with Denzel after sitting through that terrible production of Othello.

And I’m sure many are NOT happy they paid top dollar to sit through that slop. Want a Tony nom? Deliver a performance worthy of the award.

What is the 'narrow-minded' accusation she's even trying to make? The lineup for best actor in a play is about as diverse as it could possibly be—from movie star to Broadway debutant, broad racial and age diversity, comedy to horror performances. This couldn't be more obvious sour grapes...
I really wish someone explained that to her. This is not a race thing; this is a performance thing. Is he good actor? Yup. Were others better? They were.

Paulette, you must be narrow-minded! Denzel's not giving a TONY worthy performance. Got it?
Denzel and his wife need to STFU already. This same nonsense they pulled with the Oscars. He's one of the most awarded actors out there and yet somehow they both are so entitted to think anything they do deserves total lauding.
Yeah, the entitlement here is actually astounding. Denzel is a good actor, but even good actors swing and miss. He came to Othello, per early preview reports, barely knowing his lines, and by the time he did get a grip on the lines, he was giving a very listless and wandering performance.
It could’ve been that the Tonys decided to not nominate mediocrity just because it’s a big name attached to it. You didn’t see Elton John get nominated for Tammy Faye’s score, or Robert Downey Jr for McNeal, or Nick Jonas for The Last Five Years,

The reviews weren't all that positive; they were mixed at best. The number of acting nominees who are BIPOC is outstanding. Denzel's wife needs to take a step back and reevaluate the situation; she is a bit out of touch.

Yes, the article lost all credibility when it described his performance as having received good reviews. Gyllenhaal who did receive good reviews (and much better than Washington) didn’t get nominated either.

Race, race, race. That's always the accusation they're trying to make. Everything is about race. Denzel Washington doesn't get a Tony nomination? Must be because he's black. John Foster is more popular than Jamal Roberts on American Idol? "wElL tHaT's qWhiTe iNtErEsTiNg!" Caitlin Clark gets more coverage than Angel Reese? It can't be because she's so much better than Reese, it's laughable to even put them in the same sentence – no, it must be because people are threatened by Reese's "black excellence." Shedeur Sanders falls in the NFL Draft? Must be collusion because he's black.
I know I veered away from Broadway there, but it's part of the same pattern. If black people don't get everything, it must be because everyone is racist. And what these people don't understand is that the kind of race-baiting rhetoric that they constantly spew out is actually counterproductive towards achieving the kind of racial equity they want to achieve (and that we should all want to achieve). Makes me wonder if they really want said equity, or if they just want to make noise.
Oh, put a sock in it, Pauletta.
Between this and Denzel's "God made me a brilliant actor, and that humbles me" line, I'm a little over these two.

I mean, you're the only one who assumed Race here and then wrote a rant about it. She never mentioned that or implied it... maybe you should look inward, Diva...
There are very few rules in theatre but I realise one of the rules with almost no exception is that ARTISTS (or their delegates) should NEVER complain about critics, awards, other artists, message board word of mouth etc. it almost ALWAYS makes them look bad even if it is warranted. Some people can own it, JUST, because it becomes part of their personality (Patti LuPone) but even then it's only JUST as Patti has her detractors - for most it just comes across as bitter and entitled. EVEN if warranted, it's just better to NEVER, EVER comment publicly. EVER.

I disagree. I think she pretty clearly is implying that she thinks race is a factor and has been relative to her family in past situations. I mean what else does she mean with all the "I think we all know why this happened" rhetoric?

That they are rich delusional people. Because they are. Denzel is not a humble person, like... really? What are we doing here?
Like she literally told you why she thinks it happened, it's not being left open to interpretation. She doesn't think the nominators appreciated his performance.
“But we don't have to wonder why: It's narrow-minded people that are in charge of making decisions and judgments.”
You people are trying SO hard to project Race into this when there's no indication there. They're delusional people, not stupid people. They can see the diverse group of nominees who did get in.
Great response from Producer Kandi Burruss. And she congratulated the nominees.
