None of Saget's stand up act can make it's way into this material so any claims that his work is a deterrent to people seeing The Drowsy Chaperone is completely erroneous. The show has run out of an audience in New York, as a result it is no longer profitable and is therefore closing. Quite simple.
Drowsy is/was a wonderful show...full of heart, clever creativity and simply refreshingly funny, with a surprise around every corner. That's what people loved about it. Narrator/ "Man in Chair" while a principle part of its success, is by no means the sole anchor holding this delightful little keeper in its place.
All the principles were zany, well developed characters that fed off each other throughout the entire fast paced show.
Like Urinetown and Noises Off...DC is the "stuff" Broadway needs to keep creating, in my opinion. People want to laugh and be entertained intelligently and creatively. Drowsy simply ran its course to the end of its lifespan financially and audience wise.
It had a great, long on Broadway...and any theater lovin' person will listen to the buzz it made on Broadway and run to see this while it still tours. I'd highly recomed Drowsy to anyone.
sagget is such a nobody He should have paid them for the role
You're even more of a nobody. That must make you feel really bad.
And bitter.
They could have moved the show but then they would still have Saget and it seems he just wasn't right for the part. Bob Martin just forgot that Americans are more conservative than Canadians.
Tkt2Ride, I've really had enough with your obnoxious Canadian actors vs. American actors comments.
At least with DROWSY's closing, perhaps you'll finally shut up with that around here.

TKT2Ride- First off, you are dumb for arguing with me when I reported this months ago. Second, this has NOTHING to do with Saget in the show - the show was planning on closing before he was even in the role! He was just in it for a final boost. Face it, Drowsy is not commercial enough to run forever. I am actually surprised it lasted as long as did since it has 0 commercial appeal.
I saw the show twice in London, and loved it. I hoped I would get to see it on Broadway but it will close long before I can get there. Isn't 10 days notice a bit sudden?
Neddy, with all due respect, you come off as just as much of a CRY-BABY shill as Tkt2Ride does as a DROWSY shill.
Out with one shill. In with another.

Furthermore, NeddyFrank2, the show was NOT planning to close before Saget came in. And saying it has 0 commercial appeal is dumber than anything Tkt2ride has ever said.
Drowsy's days were numbered before Saget went into the show, as it was long rumored Cry-Baby would take the Marquis.
And no, it doesn't have much commercial appeal. You forget their initial advertising campaign, and many subsequent campaigns, which were along the lines of "IGNORE THE TITLE!". The radio ads featured Georgia Engel sprouting a variety of titles - Drippy Xylophone, Dippy Chaperone, etc.

I just cried. No joke. This show completely rekindled my love for theatre. I did lottery the night before Bob's first night. So, there I was, on the front row, smiling as big as possible. Beth and I swapped glances a few times, and she could obviously tell how magical the whole experience was to me. Wow... to think that this wonderful show is closing makes me so so so SO frickin sad! A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!''
Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'
I enjoyed this show and was glad I was able to catch it (Bob martin's last day). It was fun and catchy. I never expected it to run forever. It had a nice healthy run that they can be proud of.
Best wishes to the cast. So far Danny Burnstein (I think that is his name) is going to South Pacific, and Beth L. is doing one of the Encores shows coming up right?
BroadwayBoobs: I'll give all of you who weren't there a hint of who took the pictures ...it rhymes with shameless
Upsetting, but they had a good run. I saw this for the third (and most likely last) time today.

The choosing was not...

I am so proud to have been able to see pretty well every iteration of this show from the first live performance in a tiny town called Toronto. This was and is a wonderful Canadian achievement, made money for all concerned and kept a nice, somewhat reclusive and sad man with no friends save his record collection, company for over six hundred evenings.
I've been one of Beth's biggest fans for years now, seen everything she's done in NYC up until she won her Tony and now this happens. The last time I saw her was the day before she won and thanks to life being the way it is, I never got around to seeing her in the show because of my own performance schedule. I am praying I can get a ticket for a week from Friday, it would break my heart if the only show I never saw her do was the one she won her award for! *sigh*
BTW...one of her friends told me that she was contracted thru March so go figure???
It had a fantastic run considering it was an original run with a basically unknown cast. Best of luck to those involved, and I'll try to get out to see it this weekend.
