"I just listened to all the iTunes samples. I won't be buying this album because I'm too attached to the A.R.T. versions of the songs, and the A.R.T. cast."
SMH.
Sorry to disappoint you, Mattbrain. But I spoke unclearly for what I meant. While I did love Jordan and McGrath, I would easily have loved the OBCR of this show if they'd cast any two of myriad other people in their places. I happen to dislike Morrison and Grammar specifically. Not because of this show -- I've felt that way for years. If they'd cast anyone else, I'd have bought the OBCR and learned to love the musical changes made between productions. It's Morrison and Grammar making it not my cup of tea.
You can still shake your head if you want, though.
Does no one else think that Matt sounds incredibly sleepy and boring on the album? I can't get through any of his songs. I thought he was pretty boring in the show, but thought that it would come across better on the album.
can someone explain why when I start listening to some songs they start listing actors from hairspray the musical as the singers of the songs???

ATTENTION FANS: I will be played by James Barbour in the upcoming musical, "BroadwayWorld: The Musical."
I just finished listening to the OBCR, and man, I think I'm in love. The score is great and the songs are all poignant, resonant, and well-written, with my favorites being All That Matters, Neverland, Circus Of Your Mind, Stronger, Live By The Hook, When Your Feet Don't Touch The Ground, and Neverland (Reprise).
I'm not really familiar with any of the cast on the album other than Teal Wicks and Kelsey Grammar (whom I didn't know could sing, but who really knocks it out of the park), but was greatly impressed by the show's lead, Matthew Morrison, and the young men playing Jack, Michael, George, and Peter Llewelyn Davies.
Since I'll probably never get the chance to see this show LIVE, I'll have to content myself with the OCBR, which, fortunately, is going to be a very easy thing to do.
^^ Calling the songs "resonant, poignant, and well written" are literally the last things I think of when I listen to them. If you want resonant, poignant, and well written pop musical theater, Something Rotten! is giving a masterclass in it. Matthew Morrison is also the obvious weak link on the album.
I'm glad you enjoy it, but you really might want to reconsider what kind of material you think so highly of...

One could say the same thing to you for your praise of Something Rotten, whose score I personally found to be incredibly mediocre and trite. It's all very subjective. There's no reason to criticize people's personal taste in music.
I didn't get my question answered so I'm going to ask again

Because Matthew Morrison was also a part of the Hairspray cast album. It doesn't happen all the time but sometimes the albums produce messed up artists for songs. (I have no idea why, but this has happened to me too!) The Something Rotten album says that God, I hate Shakespeare is sung by Brian d'Arcy James, Rachel Stern and Jacob Ming-Trent (All from Shrek the Musical!) My personal favorite is that album also has Will Power, apparently sung by Christian Borle, Laura Bell Bundy and the Legally Blonde Ensemble :) .
Forgive me if I am just stating the obvious, (I didn't realize this when I saw the show) but after a few listenings I'm pretty sure "All of London is Here Tonight" is just a re-hash of "Circus of Your Mind" with different lyrics...
Being so attached to the ART version of the show, the OBC is hard for me to listen to - esp. anything with Morrison. Anyone else notice how Neverland and Stronger are in MUCH lower keys than they were for Jordan? I do enjoy listening to All That Matters, but that is about it.
I honestly couldn't even get past song four or five on this recording. I have thousands of cast recordings, and this was seriously one of the worst I've heard from a Broadway cast. It sounded trite and amateurish - as though the writers just threw any old words on the paper and hoped they kind of worked. The rest was mawkish and, frankly, dull.
I've enjoyed SOMETHING from every other cast album this season, but geez, I totally get why the show didn't get any nominations based on this recording (I can't comment on things like set or costumes, but I can't imagine voters were pre-disposed to like the show based on this score).
