I am sure he will be wonderful- that is not what I am talking about. If this particular thread is not the place to discuss this- I understand.
This still feels like a snooze to me. Hopefully I'm corrected when previews begin.

I’m not judging anything until I see it, but I will say if Beanie is out at my performance I know I will not be disappointed in either of the people covering Fanny! I’m excited

!!!!! Same!
Was very excited about that bit of casting news

I'm most excited for David Zinn's scenic design.

Me too. I really want to see her in another big Broadway show. I know SJB got all the attention in The Cher Show but Michela was the surprise standout for me. I would have preferred to see her lead this show.
Looking forward to his tap dance breaks in the middle of “I’m the Greatest Star” and “Who Taught Her Everything She Knows.”
I can only imagine how incredible it will be.
Agreed. Love Zinn's work. But not sure Mayer really does "lavish" in that sense. Like Sher. So I wouldn't expect a huge production, but maybe simple and stylish.

The article at the top of BWW reminded me of how garish the show's artwork is.

I hope this post does not offend or anger people- but I feel this issue needs to be discussed. Please do not call me a reactionary racist- and leave it at that- I think this is a valid issue up for discussion."
I understand your point however, there are people out there who are Jewish that are NOT white. I am Asian and I was raised Jewish. I had a bat mitzvah, I grew up going to temple. I celebrate all holidays. Just because I’m not white and I don’t “look Jewish” doesn’t mean I am not Jewish. Oy vey!!!!
I went to college with a Puerto Rican girl who is Jewish. Yes, she’s blonde and blue-eyed and was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Today she would definitely qualify to play Fanny Brice.

LOL- I thought it was interesting that the right wing is anti-semitic- and then the progressive left wing sees Jews as part of WASP culture and thinks it is fine to cast POC as Jews who struggled against so many odds to achieve in this society. Not fair- and it annoys me. That is why seeing Lehman as a black man- or Ziegfeld as a black man is okay- but you will never see a Jew cast as MLK or Michelle Obama.

Same scenario when openly gay Matt Bomer plays a straight man and not a feather is ruffled, but straight James Corden plays a gay character, and World War III is minutes from happening.
It's hilarious, isn't it? James Corden is part of the theater community, gave so much to them over the pandemic and truly loves theater. But, around here, he is deeply hated. He is a good man, a good Father and a good husband. All around great person. But God forbid he gets cast in ANYTHING. Forever amusing.

Love these double standard arguments as if they're proof of anything but your own weird anger towards... what? Liberals? Andrew Garfield in Angels in America. Benedict Cumberbatch in Power of the Dog. The main characters of Moonlight. Firth and Tucci in Supernova. All widely praised as straight men playing gay characters in very recent roles. The world didn't erupt into war because James Corden gave a poor performance. Nor will it erupt because some people actually enjoy when casts are more diverse. Calm down.
Brody, nor anyone else, needs to calm down. Thanks so much.

Exactly, and well said. So much righteous anger over nothing.
Was a little hesitant about seeing this, but thoroughly excited for this cast now that it’s fully rounded out!

To me it hits the fan when you have to have lived the exact same circumstances of a character just to play that character. Like let actors act people.

Which is exactly why it’s an issue. Gay men were (and still are to an extent) blacklisted, held back, and blatantly refused the opportunities to play straight roles…but by all means, throw a straight man in a gay role to parade them around as “brave” Oscar bait.
Looks like Amber was given an okay to go behind the scenes on her TikTok; she has nearly half a million followers. There’s some footage of the scenic and costume design presentations plus some closeups of renderings if anyone wants an idea at how the show is supposed to look.
