What is your favorite song/song's from Hamilton. I haven't seen the show, but I've listened to a few songs and think they're amazing. The one's I love: 1. Alexander Hamilton
I honestly can't believe how good this cast album is. I've gone from wanting to see the show because I'm a history nerd to thinking that it's probably not as good as the hype to I NEED TO FIND A WAY TO SEE THIS...
To answer your question, though, "My Shot" is awesome and I love the multiple themes converging in "Non-Stop". The one I play the most, though, is "It's Quiet Uptown". There's such beauty in the lyrics, the storytelling and the music. Breaks my heart listening to it.
"Satisfied" is one of the most brilliantly layered theater songs ever written, managing to cover the basis of an entire relationship, intellectual/emotional/quasi-romantic, a pragmatic acceptance of what must be, a bit of exposition, a startling actual flashback, and a projection about future possibilities and realities. It's also one of the great character identifying songs, defining Angelica, her intellect and her inner voice in myriad ways. It's a stunner.
"I'm a comedian, but in my spare time, things bother me." Garry Shandling
I love the entire score but I think my favorites are Alexander Hamilton, My Shot, The Schuyler Sisters, Satisfied, Wait for It, Take A Break, It's Quiet Uptown, and The World Was Wide Enough
I agree about Satisfied. Very well put, Auggie! I think the guy who wrote that is a genius!
These days I'm listening most to My Shot, Satisfied, Guns and Ships, History Has Its Eyes on You (Chris Jackson sounds so wonderful), Yorktown, and Dear Theodosia (so beautiful and expressive). Next week I'm sure to have new favorites.
I love the show and I love the recording, except that sometimes the drumming seem overdone to me, specifically in My Shot and Satisfied, overdone to the point that it distracts me. Plus, it sounds like a drum machine, not an actual drum. Could that be? Does anyone else feel this way?
All of them, but to be honest all three of King George's songs get me every time. It's a dream role now!

I completely agree MAC. The soundtrack sounds a bit artificial in parts due to the drumming. I'm not sure how the drumming is the weakest part of this album being that QuestLove was a part of the production team.
I haven't seen the show. I really want to listen to the recording, but part of me also wants to go in knowing nothing. Would listening before add or take away from the experience? Any opinions either way?
I personally know that I tend to enjoy music that I hear live first more, however, I don't think it would necessarily be harmful. Actually, you could probably listen to Alexander Hamilton, My Shot and You'll Be Back. Anything else? wait to see it.
I personally do not like to listen to a score before seeing a show. My mom feels the opposite because she likes to know all the lyrics she is hearing and isn't able to do so on first listen. This show is so dense you will certainly miss some lyrics live, but I personally felt I was able to understand more than enough to know what was going on. So it depends on if it will bother you to not be able to understand all the words.
Listening to the OBCR, I might recommend listening to Guns and Ships in particular if you want to understand the lyrics. Diggs's rapping is SO FAST.
"The Story of Tonight" and its reprise always put a huge smile on my face. And, as many others have said, "Satisfied" is an amazingly-crafted piece of storytelling. I also love "The Room Where It Happens," and I like to think of it as Lin-Manuel's "Someone in a Tree."
I've seen the show 4 times now (once at the Public, twice on Broadway & once when my BF won the Bwy lotto) & it is impossible for me to extricate the songs from the performances at this point - so my faves are probably a little less "pure" than those of you who listened to the cast recording first.
On a side note to the many of you who love "Satisfied" - without spoiling anything, I can tell you that the staging is also genius and really enhances & complements the stunning complexity of the writing of the song.
I think the best two songs are "Satisfied" and "Room Where It Happens," but honestly I have not been able to listen to just one song over and over. I just keep going all in and listening to the full score.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
I haven't gotten to see the show live yet, but can honestly say that there is not a single song from the cast recording that I don't love :) There are some I love even more than others, but I think they're all incredible in their own ways.
I adore Helpless and Satisfied as a pairing, because even though on a purely melodic level Helpless is the one I keep replaying constantly because it's so beautiful and happy, Satisfied truly is a brilliant piece of storytelling and the use of the "rewind" to Helpless works flawlessly.
Other favorites:
- Room Where It Happens (duh, it's unbelievable)
- Alexander Hamilton
- Farmer Refuted (it took me a few listens to fully realize how hilariously sassy it is xD)
- All of King George's bits
- Guns and Ships (mostly for the completely kick ass LAFAYETTE parts)
- Non-Stop
- Take a Break
- The Cabinet Battles
- Burn
But honestly, as soon as I start listening to the cast recording, I just end up wanting to listen the whole way through anyway, so I end up listening to most everything equally!
Such, such a masterful show, even just based on the score alone. I'm obsessed.
I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.
I've enjoyed listening to the entire thing (I unfortunately probably won't be seeing this on Broadway unless a miracle happens, so the cast recording is my go-to at the moment), but a few songs that I've really been enjoying are "My Shot," "Non-Stop," the Cabinet Battles, "What'd I Miss?," and "One Last Time."
"Was uns befreit, das muss stärker sein als wir es sind." -Tanz der Vampire
Is anyone else amazed by how good these songs would sound on the radio or in the club? I can't help imagine Beyonce singing "Satisfied." I think "Right Hand Man" and "Wait for It" could be on the radio or a Kanye album. This music is so rich and exciting but also so fresh. Love the whole recording.
