Actually not true. Other than Best Musical vs. Best Revival, they compete against the new shows in every other category.

Exactly, and with Moulin Rouge such a strong favorite for the tech and design awards, a lot of the acting awards being hotly contested (Best Actress this year is too close to call) or all but a lock (Patti LuPone), it doesn’t leave a lot of awards that FOS could be in the running for pending some really phenomenal reviews to get it in the conversation.

I feel like FOS has a good chance at choreography (not that that award has ever helped a show in the long run) and maybe Best Actor?

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

Totally possible!

There’s a rumor about Erika Henningsen joining this show and a recent tweet from her makes this even more likely considering Flying Over Sunset rehearsals are set to begin January 30th

Oh, come on. We all know winning technical awards (and even Best Actor/Actress, sometimes) does not “increase chances” for a show to become successful these days. Of course I know they’ll go up against each other in all the other categories, The original comment meant it’s chances for Best Musical.

Very interesting development! I can see her being transformed into a gorgeous 1940's socialite.

Given the musical is supposed to be set in the 1950s and the daughter died in the car accident in 1944 (and what led to Clare starting psychotherapy) I wonder how big the daughters role will be whether it will be either be flashbacks or she'll come back as a ghost etc.

The role of the daughter is a split role according to the casting notice, but it is listed as a principle role. Plus if it is indeed Erika playing that role (still just speculation) I can’t imagine her taking a super small part after starring in Mean Girls.

I mean, why not? As much as she seems to enjoy being in Mean Girls she (along with many others in that young cast) seem to post a lot about what a “marathon” it is to perform the show night after night. Why, after two years of being in the same show, wouldn’t she want to go in to play a smaller, less taxing role in a brand new musical with potential to become a huge success?

Agreed! From an actors standpoint you’re working with Lapine and Lincoln Center in a new musical. Why not? Less work, relatively good paycheck. New musical opening cold on Broadway. Makes sense even if it’s just a small featured role.

Holy ****. Aside from the BWW tip proven to be accurate, Footloose was my very first Broadway show. I have a photo of 9...10 year old me and Kushnier together when my dance studio stuck around to stage door. Now I have to find that photo!!

"They gush about the score, give some details about the story, and confirm a tiny bit about Michelle Dorrance's choreography - it sounds like it will be much more dance-driven than I would have expected. Tony even says that it's Tom Kitt's best score yet!

Young boy Atticus Ware that is in the show is taught tap by my oldest daughter in Charlotte NC.

So it's just a ten-person cast?

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

According to the casting call they start tomorrow. Erika Henningsen posted a video on her Instagram story and it looked like she was in the studio recording vocals for a commercial or something like that.

The songs come in a mixture of modes: waltz, music-hall, Fellini-esque. “I knew that the story would involve a number of styles,” Kitt said, “and I found working in them to be an enjoyable challenge.”

If Tom Kitt himself did not take LSD to inspire himself while writing this show, I will be highly disappointed.

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

Curious why choreography, especially if they only have a cast of ten.  With WSS and MR, I would be very surprised if anything else managed to sneak in.

Maybe lead in a musical...of course, that depends on the quality of the book, score, and direction at a minimum.  Neither male leads are ‘overdue’ for a Tony, so I don’t see them having some advantage going in.  That said, it doesn’t look like an overwhelming year for lead actor in a musical category candidates, although early opinion on the actor playing Tony (forgetting his first name Powell) have been impressive.

With the cast photos that came out today, I didn’t realize how white the cast was. There’s literally not a single person of color in the whole show....

My father (AIDS) My sister (AIDS) My uncle and my cousin and her best friend (AIDS, AIDS, AIDS) The gays and the straights And the white and the spades
