That's so interesting, I didn't think she sounded strained at all. I loved her renditions and thought the high notes sat in a great place in her voice. I'm really curious how her take is different from Judy's if at all.
I also thought she sounded beautiful on the song, and I'm very excited to see her in the role. Rebecca Luker is one of my favorite performers/voices, and I think she'll be great and probably quite different than Judy.
It has been a year since I saw Fun Home and I am so tempted to go back and see the new cast while in town mid May. What do people think about the replacements now that they have been doing their roles for a while (Lauren, Gabby and Rebecca)? Is it worth seeing them, in comparison to the original cast? I have limited time and was considering seeing it again on tour, but feel like this is such a perfect show for the theater-in-the-round on Broadway configuration!

The show is still perfect, and so is the cast. Definitely go see Rebecca before she's gone in a few weeks. I personally feel like Gabby doesn't bring the emotion and rawness that Young Alison needs to the table, but thats just me. Her portrayal was just too sweet, and didn't speak 12 year old struggling lesbian to me. But go see for yourself!

I think the "new" cast refers to Gabby for sure ( who I actually liked more than Sydney - even though I loved Sydney also but I liked the younger age that Gabby projects.). Rebecca Luker also for sure and there is a temporary middle Alison. Everyone else is the same without any announcements about leaving.
I will be in New York early JAN and so want to see the show.Any idea how long it will run. I realize this is like "looking into the future" but you guys seem to have lots of insider info lol
That's a tough question. Even if they post that they're selling tickets till kingdom come, they only have to give short notice if they have to close suddenly. I don't know if you can get tickets now for Jan, but why don't you do that, and deal with a closing if necessary.
I decided to revisit the show -- excited to see Rebecca, Gabby and Lauren mid May. I did standing room last summer, behind one of the 200s sections, but I will be in H121 this time -- hope the view will be as good!
The show has fallen rather drastically in recent weeks. I wouldn't be surprised to see them post a closing on Sept. 1 or (more hopefully) Jan. 1. It's now below $400,000 a week, alas. We can be hopeful about the summer, but this show has already turned a profit, and though it's relatively inexpensive to run, they surely need to stay substantially above break-even, with an eye on advance sales. I've seen it twice, and plan on a third.

They are currently selling group tickets through Jan 1 (per Broadway.com). I'm planning a trip in December and am watching fairly closely because I want to pick up tickets as soon as I can. Fingers crossed they put a new block on sale soon!
Not exactly a contract issue but the two child understudies, Alessandra Baldacchino and Maya Grace Fischbein, both posted on Instagram that they will be on as Small Alison the first week of May (it seems Gabby may be taking a well deserved vacation? She hasn't had one since the show started..)
According to their posts, Maya will be on Tuesday & Wednesday and Ali will be on Thursday-Sunday. While Ali has gone on a number of times for Gabby already since she started, this will be Maya's Broadway debut.
I saw the show yesterday for Rebecca Luker and she most certainly did not disappoint. As always, she was extraordinary. I was however, disappointed in the girl who now is playing Medium Allison. She played the role as if something were "off" about the character. At times, (and really I don't mean anything bad by this) it seemed like she was on the spectrum. It was just...weird. But if you're on the fence about going back to see it with Luker - DO IT.
