So now that tickets for Sunset Blvd are officially on sale, can any locals give advice as to best airport to fly into and best way to travel to and from Kennedy Center, preferred areas to stay, places and areas to absolutely avoid (safety wise). Thanks!
Flying into DCA (Reagan National) gets you closest to the city and you have immediate Metro access. But the new Silver Line opens later this month which means you can take Metro in from Dulles (IAD) as well. It will be a longer trip, but if the fare difference is significant, it might be worth considering.
Where you might like to stay really depends on what you want to spend. The Kennedy Center is a safe, half-mile walk from the Foggy Bottom Metro station, but they also loop continuous shuttles from there before or after the show. If the weather is nice, I usually just walk it as the time it takes is about the same as waiting to get one one of the shuttles.
Rates for staying in downtown DC can vary widely by time of year, if Congress is in session, and if major conferences are in town. I often stay in the Crystal City or Arlington areas since both have excellent Metro access into the city and hotel rates are generally less.
Broadway powerhouse Stephanie J. Block (The Cher Show, Into the Woods) stars as former silent-screen goddess Norma Desmond. Tony Award® nominee Derek Klena (Jagged Little Pill, Moulin Rouge! The Musical) is Joe Gillis, Auli'i Cravalho (Moana, Rise, The Little Mermaid Live!) is Betty Schaefer, and internationally-renowned Grammy Award® winning baritone Nathan Gunn is Max von Mayerling. They are joined by Michael Maliakel (Aladdin) as Artie Green, Kevin Pariseau (My Fair Lady, Ink) as Sheldrake, Tyley Ross (Finding Neverland, Miss Saigon) as Manfred, and Paul Schoeffler (Sunset Boulevard, Rock of Ages) as Cecil B. DeMille. The Ensemble will include David André, Lauren Blackman, Julio Catano-Yee, Colin Cunliffe, Haile Ferrier, Emily Harvey, Wonza Johnson, Aubrie Knapp, Ryland Marbutt, Lance Roberts, Maria Cristina Posada Slye, and Kristin Yancy.
Nathan Gunn! YES. Klena. Ehhh. I hope he changes his wig for this show.

This cast smells like it could end up as a Broadway transfer.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Is that what it is????"
Pretty common these days.
I love Block but can’t imagine this would transfer even with stellar reviews."
The closer this gets the less I see Block in the role. Yes she can sing the score to heaven and back but I’m so curious about her approach. I adore her but I’m just not sold.
I don’t think this would ever transfer with the last Close revival being so recent.

I'm excited that Michael Maliakel is part of this--he is fantastic as Aladdin so I'm happy to see him taking on other projects. It's also nice to see some of The Music Man cast in this. Looking forward to seeing this next month.

This does not need to transfer for it to be a success for the Kennedy Center. Can't imagine there are ANY aspirations to transfer it or record it. Maybe at best she adds With One Look and As If We Never Said Goodbye to her concert repertoire.
I love her and loved this video and will be there in the audience twice. But... why is this giving Cher? LOL. It works but like... it's her Cher voice!
Edit - I saw the whole clip on instagram reel, and it weirdly doesn't sound like the FB clip at all? Hahah. I love both versions.
There's just no way I can make it down to Washington DC next week and from the clips of SJB doing With One Look and now As If We Never Said Goodbye - it appears this is going to be something quite special. She doesn't just sing the songs exquisitely, but gets the character and nuances - even in a rehearsal setting.
Won't even put out a hope for a Broadway transfer or recording because I know they're as likely as the long-planned movie version. Looking forward to hearing everyone's reports
She's definitely putting a whole lot of "character touches" into her singing. For some roles this would be distracting, but I think it'll work for this kind of melodrama (not intended as a derogatory term).
