This calmed some of my worries about the editing

For those looking to stream -- I think the best deal is the Hulu/Disney/ESPN bundle. I simply updated my Hulu subscription to the bundle.

Lin said on GMA they still hope to bring it to movie theaters someday. I wouldn’t be surprised if they yank it from Disney+ when the productions open back up, and maybe drop it once or twice a year for a week at 4th of July/Christmas.

Here’s hoping...

Chang’s rave review is the best I’ve seen in covering the critiques of the musical - and its virtues - while evaluating it as a film. I hope I agree with him.

For anyone else who saw the short clip of Room Where it Happens, did you notice Leslie Odom flubbing the line “The Virginians emerge with the nation’s capital”?

Cause it sounded like that to me.

While I agree that if they do a theatrical release they'll temporarily pull it from Disney+. But it's a little silly to think it'd only return for a limited time after that.

Here's a good NPR review, complete with a couple of grafs of criticism of how Kail handled a couple of songs. And yes, one of them is "Satisfied." But overall, it's a very favorable review. Leslie Odom Jr. and Daveed Diggs are singled out for praise..

There isn't a single one of these filmed recordings where people don't have complaints on how they filmed (i.e., area of stage focus, lack of wide shots, weird angles, etc).

Bummed that "Satisfied" will be missing something in the intimate filming choices. But if that's the only misstep, I'll live with it. The film is getting so many raves from people who have seen the show live as well as from film critics who have never seen it.

Hamilton has officially been certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes - 100% with 48 reviews and more coming.

Alright, I was pretty sure I heard him say “napital” or “bapital”, but I guess I’m just crazy.

Any missed lines would have been fixed in post.  No member of the creative team would allow a lyric slip go unnoticed as this is a permanent documentation of the original Broadway production.  Even the slip-ups that happened on the “live” NBC musicals broadcasts were fixed for the repeat airings and home video releases.

If I want to see Hamilton [in Australia] it is A$8.99 a month to Disney+. Presume the contract is for a min.12mths. but can't see as I don't want to commit my email.

I have no interest in other Disney features so anyone know a way of streaming [prepared to pay] this without the commitment.

In the US, if you order it via Amazon (and I assume have an Amazon Fire Stick), you can order it for as little as one month.  When you order it, you tell it something along the lines of when you want billing to stop.  I clearly don't know whether those options exist in Australia, but it is worth a try investigating.

I wonder if there's a DVD or Blu-Ray release planned at some point?

That's the download of the Disney+ app. While I have no doubt the majority of that increase was due to Hamilton, there is no actual proof. Disney hasn't disclosed numbers. I wouldn't be surprised if they did, especially to justify the exorbitant amount of money they paid.

This is one of those answers I suspect we'll never get. Did this decision make economic sense for Disney? Sure, Disney+ had a much better weekend than it would have otherwise last weekend, but the corporation didn't pay all that money for the rights to Hamilton just for that, or for the extra people who will get the streaming service for the musical and then stick around for other offerings, or even for the prestige.

No doubt there will be a home video release in the future. But it's likely that the show's producers will make Disney stick to the original release timeline for that.

Did anyone here attend one of the tapings, or know if the audience was asked to reduce their applause or cheers? Or did they remove this in post production? For instance, when LMM makes his first appearance, or any lead entered, the audience erupted. But in the film there is silence. Maybe these were the closeups taped without an audience?

I assume those were the moments taped without an audience. There is absolutely no way the applause would have died down in the two-second pause between "Alexander Hamilton" and "my name is Alexander Hamilton."

Since the live audience recordings were done during regularly scheduled performances, they would very unlikely have directed the audience on how to respond. Newsies, Billy Elliot and Legally Blonde had specific live audience performances for their filmings (though Billy Elliott's was still a paid ticket performance), so they did request certain resctions from the audience.

I'd be more interested in knowing how much of the live performances featured in the recording versus what was shot in an empty theater. Supposedly most of the Rent recording was the footage filmed without an audience.

All the audience noise is “sweetened.”  They are able to add, soften, and completely remove all audience noise if they wish to do so.  What audience noise/reactions you hear in the finished film is precisely what the creative team intended.  They can even “fix” any vocal cracks or pitch issues a performer may have had during the filming.
