Hamilton Broadway Coming to Disney Plus July 3 — Page 6

I went through the Hamilton trailer shot by shot so you don’t have to.

Note: I was as specific as possible for when they are, but I’ll add more details if anybody can identify more moments. I tried to provide my reasoning for most of them, and for the ones I didn’t, it’s just because I remember that specific moment from seeing the show.

Please let me know anything I missed or got wrong. Thanks!

0:06 - Yorktown? The costumes are the main identifiers I saw. Also, the stage is backwards for some reason.

0:07 - Satisfied - “rewind” bit

0:08 - Room Where It Happens - the button at the end of the number

0:11 - Room Where It Happens - first chorus “No one really knows how the game is played”

0:16 - Past “Stay Alive Reprise-“ the costume identifies the time in the show, but there aren’t any glasses so there’s no other way to figure out what that shot is from.

0:18 - Non-Stop - the bit where everybody sings together and the staircase comes out.

0:20 - ??

0:21 - Hurricane

0:22 - Obedient Servant - glasses and clothes identify it.

0:23 - Washington On Your Side? I think that’s the only time Jefferson, Madison, and Burr are alone onstage.

0:24 - Say No To This - I don’t believe Mariah ever appears other than in that song.

0:25 - Washington On Your Side

0:26 - Non Stop - chorus immediately after “Hamilton wrote the other 51”

0:27 - Take A Break? I think that’s Angelica up on the left but I could be wrong.

0:29 - Alexander Hamilton - Hamilton is up on the catwalk and that’s the only time he’s up there.

0:31 - Schuyler Sisters

0:33 - Ten Duel Commandments

0:35 - Room Where It Happens?

0:36 - Yorktown

0:38 - Non Stop - when Angelica leaves for London. “Don’t forget to write”

0:39 - Yorktown - Hercules Mulligan’s bit

0:40 (2) - Right Hand Man - final button

0:41 - Reynolds Pamphlet - the papers on the ground identify this number

0:41 (2) - ?? Obviously one of King George’s numbers but I don’t know which one. My guess would be You’ll Be Back because it’s the one with the most frilly costume for King George.

0:42 - ??

0:42 (2) - ??

0:43 - ??

0:44 - Aaron Burr, Sir - the rap in the Tavern

0:44 (2) - Guns And Ships

0:44 (3) - Alexander Hamilton. He only wears that costume for the opening number.

this remains to be seen though. i agree it's not a big deal but the MPAA isn't cut and dry with how many instances of the word elevate a rating to an R and usually it's when the word is used to mean intercourse that elevates it -- neither time it's used in Hamilton is that the case.

Disney bought this believing they won the lottery. Whether or not people would have paid money to see a filmed stage show on the same level that they see a regular motion picture remains to have been seen. They paid too much money just stream it on Disney+. New subscriptions wouldn't even come close to recouping that investment. And let's not forget that Disney didn't actual film this or commission it, so there might be caveats in the distribution agreement requiring them to release it on DVD, Blu-Ray, etc.

Just wondering, when this becomes available Jul 3 will the Interweb break?

Cos I'm kinda thinking it will.

I assumed they would show it for a very short time and then let demand build up for a theatrical release in the distant post-COVID future, or perhaps a once a year limited “event” on their streaming platforms to encourage subscriptions, or any other possibility that would generate a return on their huge investment.

I’m not making my point clearly. I’m saying that it’s because they spent 75 million dollars that they would only make it available for a very short period the first time around. Then, after some period of time, they would re-release it in one of several different ways with the intent of maximizing the potential profit (or, more likely, minimize the loss) and then take it out of circulation again.

We’re an unusual bunch here. We love theater and enjoy seeing shows multiple times to repeat and compare the experiences. Many (probably most) people are one and done. They want to “see Hamilton” because it’s the thing to do but will have no interest in seeing it again. If D+ leaves this around for awhile, everyone who wants to see it will find a way to do so. The pent-up demand will be satiated.

I’m thrilled this is being released now and will enjoy watching it many times. (I predicted LMM would release it for the show’s 20th anniversary so I lost that bet by about 15 years.) Regardless, we all want this to be a money-maker for Disney, otherwise there’s no argument from a business perspective to take chances with other shows.

LMM responded to someone about this on Twitter and implied we'll be able to watch it many, many times. I think it will be on Disney+ for a while. My bet is at least six months and then they will release in theaters as more of a sing-along play next year.
