"so maybe you all should stop hating.... youre all closet high school musical fans anyway im sure....otherwise the soundtrack wouldnt be doing so well on the billboard charts"

I think that counts as saying you HAVE to like it. You act as if just because it's selling well on the billboard charts means it's automatically a great musical!

"sorry you guys couldnt be a part of the success"

For some reason I don't think I'd ever want to be part of this piece of junk.

I would have respected you more for your opinions if you would have left out lines like thesere: High School Musical

"oh and they better transpose some of the songs down because its hard to use a pitch-corrector in a live show."

That's one of the best quotes I've ever heard. :)

This movie is a hideous 3 headed monster that cannot be stopped. This thing has more fangirls than Wicked, and that's saying something. I shiver at the fact that by November hunderds of schools will be performing this piece of crap.

markcohenwannabe, people like you are starting to make me realize why old BBWers are so mean. You just completely bashed everyone who hated the movie. MILLIONS of people buy Brittany Spears records. I'm sure that means she's great too. Ashlee Simpson manages to top charts, I'm sure that means she's just wonderful!!! And since when does not liking something not give someone licence to bash it? For the most part no one has said anything extremely disrespectful other than not liking the movie.

On another note I liked the script of the movie, the entire cast gave me a headache ,but I'd like to see some real singers preform it somewhere near where I live, I know my school won't be doing it. I'm like the one of two guys in our entire music program that could sing a pop score re: High School Musical

I have NEVER met Cheyenne Jackson. I have never hung out with him in his dressing room, he did not tweet me, he never bought me a beverage, and he mostly certainly didn't tickle me. . .that is all.

OK, I get how hard people worked on this. Good for them. But REALLY! Let's give the theatre some respect and decency! This is the most cliche movie ever, now one of the most cliche shows I guess.

i think this show cud actually be good on stage because it wud be performed by people who can actually sing and act at the same time. i think a lot of the "bashers" are blinded by the horrible casting of the movie (come on its disney channel). the material is not as horrible as it is made out to be.

This is crazy I mean it's a Disney Channel Show not a show that would work on stage even if they tried. I think it should stay on Disney Channel not come to the stage.

I'd like to see the TV "cast" do a stage production. It's so much harder to open your mouth and have someone else's voice come out on stage. In the movie they don't even *look* like they're singing. Maybe a stage version could bring a shred of dignity to it. A morsel of a shred. An amoeba on a morsel of a shred of dignity.

2 things:

Stick to the Status Quo is stolen from Hairspray (you can't stop the beat)

None of the kids in the movie (aside from ashley tisdale) actually sang. They have all admitted it.

i dont see how Stick to the Status Quo was "stolen" from Hairspray. sure, the overall mood and feel of the song is similar, but the melody, lyrics, and orchestration doesnt sound similar at all.

I don't quite understand all the hype about High School Musical. I mean, it's good to know that any sort of musical can catch on the way it has commercially, but I just don't get it. Do people seriously think it's that good?

It's fine that they like it, though. The only thing really bothering me? The girls in my year at school claiming that they love/ are obsessed with musicals without knowing what's currently playing on Broadway or who Stephen Sondheim is.

I adore this.
It might be the most ridic thing I've heard ever.

Fantastic movie because it was so insanely bad. I wonder how they'll do it on a stage.

It's a good thing I'm a senior this year. It's also a good thing that my high school does not do musicals from 1990 onward. (Or...so I think.)

I actually enjoyed the movie. It was cheesy and crappy but I found it enjoyable.

BUT I think the most important thing this movie can do is to get young teens interested in musicals. And if it takes a cheesy Disney high school musical to do it, so be it. Broadway needs supporters to make money and Disney knows how to make money from Broadway. Without the big blockbuster shows (i.e. wicked, lion king...etc...etc) there would never be the more artistic, the smaller, the different, the unique. So if it takes a high school musical to cross over to get kids interested then we should be supporting it!

See...I wanted to hate this, but after being forced to watch it, I learned to appreciate it. The story and music are actually not that bad. Personally, I think the biggest problem with the movie was the direction. The transitions into songs were extremely abrupt, and I think the kids in it have a lot more talent than was allowed to translate to the small screen. Some would argue that these are due to the script, but I beg to differ.

Having said that, Newsies is one of my favorite musical films, and I was shocked when I learned that HSM was directed and choreographed by the same guy. The choreography was another point that I felt could have used improvement in the movie. The scene in the lunchroom had so much potential to be important to the story - what with the kids "crossing over" and "breaking the mold" - but came off as just another excuse for the characters to sing.

I think this show deserves to be performed live on stage, because the movie definitely does not do it justice.

I'm actually very interested in how well it would transfer to the stage. I can see college age persormers being able to sing it without pitch problems. I bet it would sell well.

"just because you didnt like it doesnt give you liscence to bash it"

Actually, yes it does. That's why message boards like this exist. Until the government makes a law that says you have to go to the county building to apply for a "license to bash" (and you can bet I'll be first in line when that happens) my opinion alone suffices. The forums at BWW were created specifically for the sharing of those opinions, so you should probably get used to reading them here.

I believe in the power of musical theater. I believe in the integrity of young performers. I believe in them being given the opportunity to perform top-quality works of art. And High School Musical as a high school musical? "That ain't it, kid."

I didn't like it. My friends are obsessed, and are madly in love with Zac Efron (the lead guy with the shaggy blonde hair). I thought it was corny, but heck, they made it for little kids, so it has the right to be a bit cheesy. My friends will flip out about this though. They'll probably drag me to one of these shows :)

I would say regardless of whether you like it or not, practically EVERY 14 year old and under I mention it to go ape s**t and start singing and dancing like crazy, and that's good for theater, period. In a day and age where more and more schools are cutting funding for arts, interest in theater for a lot of today's youth (Rent and Wicked aside) is waning, competition from TV and video games, ipods, etc...the fact it has cut through the clutter and has set the imagination of kids on fire is a great thing. Hopefully it will spark more interest in theater and the arts!

I loved the movie simply because it was so horribly, tremendously, bad. The idea of this ever working on stage, to me, is completely laughable.
