Well, it's just one big event THIS year (so far), as her year was really 2014... but I hope the camera people don't keep doing closeups of her tonsils like they did at the MLB thing. This'll be in Arizona? Weather should be okay.
It doesn't matter what the weather will be or if she is sick, tired, etc. She's going to sound perfect because the National Anthem at the Super Bowl is always pre-recorded. No one sings the National Anthem at the Superbowl live because it is televised live and the NFL doesn't want any mishaps. One of the few exceptions was Christina Aguilera. She made such a big deal about being live that they caved in and let her. Being that she was a total atrocity and messed up the lyrics, I doubt they'd let anyone do it again. Either way, I'm very happy for Idina. As someone who has been following her for years, I absolutely believe she deserves this and I'm glad 2015 is already starting to look like another great year for her.
^Edit to add: Oh, pre-recorded, huh? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_national_anthem_performers_at_the_Super_Bowl#Controversies That's hilarious. Menzel tweeted about how she remembered Whitney Houston's great rendition in 1991, and that was lip-synced! At least according to the Wiki article, the lip-sync revelations "garnered little criticism." The masses just aren't interested in live performances, I guess.
---- The timing with IF/THEN's dark week, coincidental or not, is pretty good at least. No need to cancel a Sunday performance or get Jackie Burns up there (to unhappy ticket buyers, poor gal).
I spotted occasional comments on social media that Menzel "can't sing live!" Never mind that they know nothing about her Broadway career, but how soon people forget (even if you don't like her singing style/voice)...

Kelly Clarkson sang it live the year after Aguilera.
It's generally only prerecorded when Quincy Jones is involved (Whitney Houston, Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks).
Given the official announcement that the dark week is to allow for Menzel's travel and rehearsal, I'm guessing she'll be singing live after all. This shouldn't be a problem since she's performed the national anthem a few times live by now.
I kind of hope she doesn't. It had been going downhill for quite some time now, even more so in its new time slot; it doesn't seem like a good career move at this point, though I'm sure the pay would be fine. Though like I commented before, why would the Glee producers keep something like that under wraps especially given Menzel's much higher public profile now? Buzz is important. The returning cast and guest stars were announced some time ago, weren't they?
"it doesn't seem like a good career move at this point"
If she enjoyed doing it, and it is their last season, I'm sure that would weigh in higher than whether it pays well or is a good career move. Not to mention, loyalty to Ryan Murphy IS a career move.
Pootie, I agree it isn't the best career move-- I was actually giving her major props for only appearing on the show when it was in fact relevant-- but it certainly isn't make or break. She's already been on before. And though you make a good point about publicizing her return for ratings, if she does in fact appear, it won't be til way late in the season at which point I'm sure they would pull the "surprise super special mega brilliant guest star RETURNS"
Who knows though. Any other guesses as to why she'd be allowed to stop production on her show for an entire week just before it's set to close with, I might add, fairly late notice?
As for notice, I have no idea what goes on in the negotiations for such things and how far in advance an event like this would have to vet possible performers. But in checking, Alicia Keys was announced Jan 18 for a Feb 3 performance (2013); Renee Fleming was announced Jan 21 for a Feb 2 performance (2014). So this doesn't seem far off for notice time.
