I don't feel like going all the way through this thread, but I believe it has been pretty much confirmed that they have eliminated Cinderella's father. I've never been quite sure what use his role plays on stage to the story, other than to have originally given Edmund Lyndeck something to do while he was serving as the standby for Tom Aldredge. So no surprise if the character has indeed been cut from the screenplay.
They haven't eliminated the Baker's Father, but they've eliminated the "mysterious man."
The Baker's Father appears in a flashback during the Witch's Rap at the beginning.
He then appears in a new scene, written to replace "No More." The Baker talks with his father, who is either a ghost or a memory.
EDIT: Are you thinking of Cinderella's Father? Yes, he was eliminated.
And sorry for forgetting Little Red's Granny! I will add her to the "list."
Roles still not announced or confirmed:
Jack (Daniel Huttlestone is not confirmed, but "in negotiations") Little Red Riding Hood Little Red's Granny The Giant's Wife The Steward The Baker's Father Cinderella's Mother (Tree/Ghost)
From what I can tell, the "tree ghost" of Cinderella's Mother will likely be CGI with perhaps some character motion capture. But it sounds like it's more of a "special effect" with the voiceover singing. Still, it would be nice to hear a good/familiar voice doing that singing.

They could at least get someone from the original cast to play Cinderella's mother. Maybe Bernadette? I still say she looks too youthful for Red's Granny, even though, age wise she's perfect. She just looks too damn good.
A part of me wants to hear Joanna Gleason as the "tree voice" of Cinderella's Mother.
But the perfect choice for me would be Victoria Clark. She would sing it beautifully. And since I think it's going to involve a lot of CGI for the tree, Victoria (or another working NY actress right now) could conceivably record it in a studio there and not have to worry about a conflicting schedule.
I actually thought of Bernadette Peters for the Giant's Wife, too. She can do a lot of wonderful things with her speaking voice that can fluctuate between cute or silly and dark and menacing (with the help of audio FX, it could be fantastic).
Just a thought.

"Wouldn't an animated tree be too similar to the one in Pocahontas?"
It's entirely different, it's described in the script. It's not a face in the middle of the tree as in Pocahontas, the branches and leaves of the tree will shape into the Mother's face, hair, and body.
It's a little depressing that the film isn't coming out until *next* Christmas! I want to see it right now.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
According to the leaked script, the song Cinderella at the Grave has been cut and there is just a tiny bit of dialogue there (like literally 2 lines), there is no face in the tree..its just a tree that moves.
Also, the Steward doesnt kill Jacks Mom. They just find her hat later and assume she's been killed by the giant.
Does the new script have any other changes from the other one that was released? Namely, are the Witch's "Lament" and "Maybe They're Magic" still cut? I could do without "Cinderella at the Grave," "No More" and the rest, but those two upset me. /:
I have not read all of the leaked script so I do not know if "Our little World" will be in this film. Mackenzie Mauzy will make a nice Rapuzel I'm sure, but had Laura Osnes been cast in the role I would have been very excited to see her and Streep sing a duet.
Anna Kendricks is one busy woman. I guess LAST FIVE YEARS has wrapped up? Now she's on to this. Two musical films in a row! I know I had expressed disappointment in her casting in this but I think I am now warming up to the idea. I am really excited to see how this all turns out. Hopefully (fingers crossed) it's a winner.
Huttlestone IS playing Jack despite there being no official confirmation in the press yet. He began rehearsals yesterday and posted a photo of himself with James Corden on Facebook.
