Anna Kendrick just tweeted that the academy has invited her to do a special performance on the Oscars. I wouldn't be surprised if ITW did something, even with its lack of nominations. But she could just be paying tribute to something during the program. I will try to post a link to the tweet...
They invited HER to be a PART of a pre-planned performance. I doubt that it will be something from Into The Woods. Maybe they will have an "In Memoriam" performance?
Yeah if they wanted someone to sing Into The Woods, they probably would have asked Streep instead. It probably has nothing to do with ITW.
I wonder what beer she cracked open while sighing through that phone call.
Love me some Oscar performances!
I assume it'll be along the lines of what Pink did last year. Paying tribute to something or someone.
^Kendrick can't carry a number like that. She'll be part of some lavish production number (à la NPH's big 2013 Tony opener).

Given that Neil Patrick Harris is hosting, it's possible - even probable - that he's planning some huge production number to open the show, and she might be included in the number - maybe along with some other ITW alum, maybe not. Since ITW didn't get a Best Picture nomination, there's no chance she'll be doing anything from the show, except maybe as a spoof.
Maybe No On Is Alone during the memorial? Or perhaps part of a NPH opening number?
Here recent tweet to Sutton Foster seems to hint she'll be included as well.

I think the tweet to Sutton was fangirling over the fact that Sutton complimented her performance in last five years
Yep. Sutton praised Anna's performance in "The Last Five Years," and Anna fangirled.
I think she could be part of an opening number? Since 2013 already had the movie musical tribute with Chicago, Dreamgirls, and Les Miserables.

Looking forward to whatever it is. I am expecting a lot of music because of NPH.

If Meryl Streep did Last Midnight live
If Meryl performed LM (who knows why that would happen), I'm sure it would be done Zeta-Jones style.
Whatever she's doing she will do it well. That girl is ON FIRE!
I'd rather hear Streep sing Children will Listen.
Children Will Listen would make more sense, or at the very least Stay With Me. (Although those two are probably a bit too slow-paced for the typical Oscar audiences out there anyways.) Last Midnight would leave people unfamiliar with the show or movie confused.

Streep singing anything from ITW is as farfetched as a redo of that strange Snow White opening bit at the Oscars a few years ago.

I predict an opening number about how surprising it is that so many movie stars can sing.
Well, they so far have Anna Kendrick, Jack Black, and Jennifer Hudson. What a group.

uhh you mean 26 years ago?

Rumor has it that it's a tribute performance to the Sound of Music which one 50 years ago.
I would love an Into the Woods related thing!! Who knows? Maybe Streep will do something? She doesn't have a Twitter to say otherwise!
On a side note, I still wonder why after everything people still doubt Streep's vocal ability...she has demonstrated time after time again that she is an excellent singer (with a REALLY impressive range):

But I digress...
Anyway, though it's unlikely, it would be amazing if Into the Woods has something. This is a good year for musical films: Annie, Into the Woods, Last Five Years, Pitch Perfect 2 (if that counts). Also, didn't Neil Meron or Craig Zadan, the producers, mention their love that the musical films are doing so well?
ITW wasn't nominated for Best Picture and nothing in it was eligible for Best Original Song, so there won't be any Les Miz-type group number. NPH might make a reference to the movie in his monologue because Streep is up for Best Supporting actress (which she doesn't have a chance of winning) but that's it.
Kendrick seems to be there for something not related to ITW.
