I've done 3 - back in 2000 saw Forbidden Broadway @ 2, Rocky Horror Show @ 5 and Aida @8.
And on a high school trip in 1995 I saw Radio City Christmas Spectacular and How To Succeed on the same day.
Chicagofan: Have you already gotten your tickets for the shows you listed?
Just wondering because depending on the time of year you're coming, tix can be hard to get-- especially for Wicked (actually Wicked's supposedly hard to get ALL year)

Personally, I believe 2 shows in 1 day is too much, but that is just me.
nope definitely not! my friend and I saw Jersey Boys and Spamalot on the same day and on saturday I'm going to see Frost/Nixon and 110. Its a lot of fun!
Wow, that's very wonderful of you. You have one lucky daughter. And no, two shows isn't too much. She'll have a blast!
Oh, and if you haven't bought tickets for Wicked yet, buy them now. They sell out really fast.
Personally, I consider a one-show day a bit of a waste. ^_^ Think about it; if I'm paying hundreds of pounds to fly to New York and stay in a hotel, then it's better value for money if I do as many shows as possible (and the same goes even if I'm only paying thirty quid train fare and kipping on my mates' sofa in London). My only sadness is that Broadway doesn't do Tuesday or Thursday matinees, which is what I love about the West End (where I also frequently prefer to do two-show days). Mind you, the West End is more limited in its Sunday choices, so it balances out a little there. ^_^
I've done two shows a day frequently - it averages out to better value for money - if I'm spending £25 on parking and tickets, then it's better value to do two shows...
I've even done two back to back and standing for both...

Because I get down to the city only a couple times a year, I've been know to bunch three or four shows into 36 or 48 hours. I think the last time I did that was actually a few years back--I tend to go Thursday-Saturday now for some reason--when I saw three shows (two Saturday, one Sunday) in a 36-hour time frame...can't remember the first two shows, but the third was "The Producers."
I've done it a couple of times. It didn't feel bunched together or hurried at all :0)
But then, you've already heard that about 10 times now...
Not at all, but this is coming from someone who's goal has always been to see 10 shows in 7 days.

I don't think two shows in one day is too much, especially if they are shows your daughter is interested in seeing. As long as she's engaged and interested in the show I'm sure she won't mind sitting still.
No.
Do it. I do it all time.
Makes the trip into the city a bit more worth your while.
I saw HAIRSPRAY [2pm Matinee] and JERSEY BOYS [8PM show] on the same day and I did lotto for Hairspray and SRO for Jersey Boys. And that's just one time I can remember doing it. I love seeing 2 in one day.
Its alot of fun.
I don't find it to be too much.
The only chain I've ever eaten at in NY is McDonald's.
John's Pizza is amazing, as is Art Cafe near 52nd.
And Junior's is right near several theaters.
Though I am well above the age of 16, My max was 4 in a day, and I survived beautifully (this was following a 9 hour bus trip, and ended with the 9 hour return trip) Go for it!
No she shouldn't have any problem with it, especially if they are shows she wants to see.

When I went to London for 5 nights in 1999 it was my first time being in a big theatre city and I wasn't gonna not take advantage--I ended up seeing 9 shows (and still managing to go clubbing 3 of those nights, see the Tate gallery and the Royal Museum, etc...) It was an awesome trip. then again I was 18-19 at the time, it's only ten years later but I swear I don't have half the stamina.
Still many peopel go to film festivals and see 3-5 films a DAY. That I think would be too much for me (i don't even really care for back to back double features)--2 shows with a nice break inbetween for food and drink and to discuss what you saw before seeing the next sounds heavenly to me
hell's no! I've done it about 3 times before. Best thing ever!
I'm 16 and just about every time I go to the city (once every one or two months) I see two shows in one day. To the point where one show in one day is too little. No, seriously, though, it's a great experience. A full day of NYC theater is a lot of fun. It takes a lot out of a person (well, out of me, but hell, I'll make a sweeping generalization), but it's totally worth it. Hope you all have a great time!

I did the same thing for my 16th birthday! It was such a blast. No, I do not think it is a lot. The shows are not back to back so you have time in between. It will be a blast!!! HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!

Thank you for all of your replies and kind words. Actually, I think I am the lucky one to be able to share my love of theater with my daughter.
I will have my daughter read this thread and let her decide if she would like to do 2 shows in 1 day. You all have me convinced that it might be a lot of fun.
We have already purchased tickets for Wicked, Legally Blonde, and Rent, (I did it months ago to ensure good seats). I checked online and tickets are still available for Spring Awakening during our weekend to Broadway in June.
I am still smiling after reading your replies, thanks!
