There was a time when shows were great
When their voices were loud
And show tunes tune-full
There was a time when shows were billiant
And were filled with song
And each song was exciting
There was a time
Then it all went wrong
I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When prices low
And shows worth seeing
I dreamed that Ethel would never die
I dreamed that Patti was forgiving
But I was young and took a pic
And screams were screamed my ticket wasted
There was no apology to be made
Patti's Rant went up on You Tube
But the Scalpers come at night
With their prices high as Lilo
And these posters rip you new ones
As they turn your dream to sh...

I liked Once, but I don't think I would see it again. It was a beautiful show.
I think you'd like Newsies, Drood, or maybe even Rock of Ages
Thank you so much for your recommendation!! My mom and I just looked at the show and we are most likely going to see it! Thank you again!!

Interesting. Quiche2 used to say the same thing....
Les Miserable. Another wonderful show, in my opinion. Your remix truly made my night. Your growing on me.
I also loved GHOST. You shouldn't care who else did or didn't. Really, who cares?
Just as I don't see why someone on here being bored at Once means that you will also. If you're interested in a show, go to see it and form your own opinion!
I hate when people are right!
I am glad I saw it, but it was not my favorite musical of the past year. It's quiet and moving at times, but my taste is more traditional musical. I think "Nice Work" was the best musical of 2012 by far but that is far from the consensus on this board. Everyone's taste is different, so my advice would be to go see Once and enjoy..
I think you guys are being Punk'd by the original poster.
I didn't like it. But you and I may have different tastes.

If you are seeking big, brassy orchestrations, don't go see ONCE.
If you are seeking anachronistic, high-flying gymnastics that passes for choreography, don't go see ONCE.
If you are seeking chorus boys in tight pants with bulging crotches and chorus girls with low-cut cleavage, don't go see ONCE.
If you are seeking a night in the theater that brings romance, humor, despair, and joie de vivre into one beautiful evening, then do go see ONCE.

Of the 100+ shows I have had the fortune to witness on Broadway, ONCE is one of my favorites (top 5 or 10). It is beautiful, understated, elegant and a wonderful escape from some of the overproduced, overhyped shows of late. There are no Hollywood "stars" and no glitter or fanciful production numbers. There are simple yet creative and innovative production elements and one of the most tremendous loads of talent and depth I have seen in a cast. I can understand how one might not "like" ONCE as it is a simple story but I would be surprised if theatergoers of any ilk do not at least respect and appreciate the production.

The one word in your post that I'll echo is "despair" : I despaired at having sat through this excruciating, insufferable show. Boring? You betcha. It DEFINES boring.
If Leslie is still reading, I would recommend Nice Work If You Can Get It.
I loved Once. it made me laugh and cry! I think BOB3 is right on with his analaysis. Its a Modern Musical. Maybe its cuz Im young, but i couldnt stand Nice Work

Yes, maybe its cuz you're young.
well duh AFTER8 i just said that, no need for an echo
Leslie Caswell is a character in The Mousetrap. Draw your own conclusions.
I think everyone will agree Once is beautiful. The question is if Once is boring. I honestly found the show extremely boring, but that is also because ai have never been in love. As you area 14 year old girl, I honestly think you will be in a similar boat to me.

Think again.
Or better yet, why not try reading what people have written on this board before making stupid statements like this one?
I adored "Once". So beautiful in its simplicity. The staging was magical, the performances sublime, the story so intimate. However, it definitely is not a show for everyone's taste. If you only like big splashy musical, Once is not for you. I, however, did not like Leap of Faith at all and wouldn't waste my time or money on Ghost. That being said, you are 14, and I saw my first show at 14 also .. but that was back in 1969! There are many shows that I loved at that age, and looking back and listening to the score or seeing other productions, I realized how naive I was. I pretty much liked everything that had "great talent" (Carol Channing and Sid Caesar in Four on a Garden ... truly a disaster, but I didn't think so at the time!). Just like fine wines, tastes in theatre change with experience and exposure.
Funny, I brought a large group to see this, predominantly HS kids -- and 99% of them thought it was one of the best shows they had ever seen. So AGE has little to do with it.
I'm not begrudging anyone's opinion -- you can't help what you like or don't like.
exactly dramamama, just like bringiton, or cinderella is probably for younger folks and stuff like Chaplin or Nice Work which my Grandma loved is for older. room for everyone!
